Warren Buffett announced Wednesday that he\u2019s resigning from his position as trustee at the Gates Foundation and that he\u2019s donating another $4.1 billion worth of Berkshire Hathaway shares to five charitable organizations.<\/p>\n

In 2006, Buffett, who\u2019s the eighth richest person in the world with a net worth of about $105 billion, pledged most of his fortune to the Gates Foundation and to four other charitable trusts created by his family. <\/p>\n

\u201cFor years I have been a trustee \u2013 an inactive trustee at that \u2013 of only one recipient of my funds, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMG),\u201d Buffett said in a statement. \u201cI am now resigning from that post, just as I have done at all corporate boards other than Berkshire\u2019s.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe CEO of BMG is Mark Suzman, an outstanding recent selection who has my full support. My goals are 100% in sync with those of the foundation, and my physical participation is in no way needed to achieve these goals,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

The donation also marks the halfway point for Buffett, who pledged to donate all of his Berkshire shares through annual gifts to the foundations he supports. <\/p>\n

Buffett said Wednesday he now owns 238,624 shares, worth about $100 billion, down from the 474,998\u00a0shares he owned in 2006.<\/p>\n

The legendary investor\u2019s announcement comes nearly two months after the Gates Foundation founders, Bill and Melinda, announced their divorce after 27 years of marriage.<\/p>\n

The announcement also comes weeks after news<\/a> reports about Bill Gates\u2019\u00a0behavior toward female employees, his personal relationship with\u00a0convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein\u00a0and a\u00a0toxic workplace culture\u00a0at his longtime money manager Michael Larson\u2019s office.<\/p>\n

The Gates Foundation previously told reporters\u00a0after the Gateses announced their divorce last month that \u201cno changes to their roles or the organization are planned.\u201d<\/p>\n

But the\u00a0Wall Street Journal reported<\/a> last month that the Gates Foundation is considering forming a board and bringing in outside directors. <\/p>\n

Gates\u2019 now-estranged wife, Melinda French Gates, has pushed for the changes to ensure the future stability of the foundation, the Journal reported, citing anonymous sources.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The foundation is one of the largest philanthropic organizations in the world.<\/p>\n

The Foundation did not immedia<\/a>tely return The Post\u2019s request for comment.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
