{"id":282356,"date":"2021-06-23T21:39:47","date_gmt":"2021-06-23T18:39:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/amazon-scooping-up-solar-and-wind-energy-projects-around-the-world\/"},"modified":"2021-06-23T21:39:47","modified_gmt":"2021-06-23T18:39:47","slug":"amazon-scooping-up-solar-and-wind-energy-projects-around-the-world","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/amazon-scooping-up-solar-and-wind-energy-projects-around-the-world\/","title":{"rendered":"#Amazon scooping up solar and wind energy projects around the world"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#Amazon scooping up solar and wind energy projects around the world<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Amazon is buying up energy production capacity from solar and wind plants around the world in a bid to power all its business activities through renewable energy by 2025.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Seattle-based e-tailing giant headed by Jeff Bezos <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aboutamazon.com\/news\/sustainability\/amazon-becomes-largest-corporate-buyer-of-renewable-energy-in-the-u-s\">said Wednesday<\/a> it committed to buy 1.5 gigawatts of production capacity \u2014 enough to power 500,000 homes \u2014 from 14 new wind and solar projects in North America and Europe.<\/p>\n<p>Wednesday\u2019s purchases bring Amazon\u2019s total renewable energy purchases to 10 gigawatts, making the company the largest corporate buyer of renewable energy in the US.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But Amazon has a long way to go before it reaches its goal of net-zero emissions. The company had a carbon footprint of about 51.2 million metric tons in 2019, according to its <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/sustainability.aboutamazon.com\/pdfBuilderDownload?name=sustainability-all-in-december-2020\">sustainability report<\/a> \u2014 roughly equivalent to the greenhouse gas <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.channelnewsasia.com\/news\/singapore\/52-5m-tonnes-of-greenhouse-gases-generated-by-singapore-in-2017-11975708\">emissions<\/a> of the entire country of Singapore.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Concerns about Amazon\u2019s environmental impact resurfaced this week after a report alleged that an Amazon warehouse in Scotland destroys millions of unused products each year \u2014 including laptops, jewelry and books.
