\n New York City is set for its reopening Monday \u2014 but there\u2019ll be nothing grand about it. <\/p>\n

A number of coronavirus-weary retailers \u2014 including Sephora, Coach, Kate Spade and Stuart Weitzman \u2014 won\u2019t be opening up, even though in-store pickup or drop-off is OK. <\/p>\n

\u201cPhase 1 is only going to have a minor impact on retail and retail employment,\u201d said Stuart App<\/a>lebaum, president of the 60,000-member Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union, referring to the state\u2019s four-phase reopening plan. \u201cMost retail workers will remain unemployed.\u201d <\/p>\n

He said workers are \u201cfrightened\u201d to come back to work over concerns for their health as the city awakens from its coronavirus coma. <\/p>\n

Tapestry Inc., the parent company of Coach, Kate Spade and Stuart Weitzman, told Bloomberg News<\/a> that it would wait longer to reopen its shops in the Big Apple, despite having hundreds of stores already open across the globe. <\/p>\n

Business coalitions including the Fifth Avenue Association and Times Square Alliance have no details as to which stores will reopen. <\/p>\n

\u201cFor Times Square, we don\u2019t expect too dramatic a difference from today,\u201d said Times Square Alliance president Tim Tompkins. <\/p>\n

Bloomingdale\u2019s on East 60th Street and Macy\u2019s in Herald Square will open for curbside pickup next week, but reps for both stores warned, \u201cWe are taking things day by day.\u201d <\/p>\n

Barnes & Noble is planning on a slow rollout, too, opening three shops on Monday and another three the following week. <\/p>\n

Meanwhile, more than 33,500 non-essential construction sites \u2014 including real-estate and office construction \u2014 will come back online Monday in a boost to the workforce. <\/p>\n

New York City is the last of the state\u2019s 10 economic regions to open under Phase 1 of the four-phase plan.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
