\nIn case you hadn\u2019t heard,\u00a0Britney Spears<\/strong> was finally able to speak for herself in a court hearing on Wednesday and proved many #FreeBritney followers right.<\/p>\n

She told the judge she believed her conservatorship was \u201cabusive\u201d and was keeping her trapp<\/a>ed from living her life, despite the fact she was a capable adult.<\/p>\n

As for the years of telling everyone she was fine? She addressed that directly, saying:<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve lied and told the whole world I\u2019m OK and I\u2019m happy. I\u2019ve been in denial. I\u2019ve been in shock. I am traumatized\u2026 I\u2019m not happy. I can\u2019t sleep. I\u2019m so angry. It\u2019s insane. And I\u2019m depressed. I cry every day.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

So awful.<\/p>\n

But\u2026 why was she lying in the first place? She spoke a bit about that as well, and the answer was rather unexpected. She said during her virtual hearing:<\/p>\n

\u201cTo be honest with you, the Paris Hilton<\/strong> story on what they did to her at that school, I didn\u2019t believe any of it. I\u2019m sorry.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

She is of course referring to when Paris spoke out last summer about the abuse she faced as a teen attending the Provo Canyon School<\/strong>. She claimed the adults running the place were verbally and physically abusive to the teenage girls there, who were sent because of disciplinary issues and thus were not believed. It didn\u2019t take long before several other alumni joined her in speaking out about their abusive experiences.<\/p>\n

But what did that have to do with Britney? Well, she reasoned that if she didn\u2019t believe Paris at the time, why would anyone believe her<\/em> when\u00a0she<\/em> spoke out about her abuse?<\/p>\n

\u201cMainly I didn\u2019t want to say it openly because I honestly don\u2019t think anyone would believe me\u2026 I\u2019m an outsider and I\u2019ll just be honest, I didn\u2019t believe it and maybe I\u2019m wrong and that\u2019s why I didn\u2019t want to say any of this to anybody to the public because I thought people would make fun of me or laugh at me and say, \u2018she\u2019s lying, she\u2019s got everything, she\u2019s Britney Spears.\u2019 I\u2019m not lying. I just want my life back.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Wow. Just heartbreaking.<\/p>\n

Britney detailed several abuses at the hands of her father, things it seems to us should be illegal in any conservatorship \u2014 like that she was drugged when she refused to perform a concert or that she was forced to take contraceptives against her will because they didn\u2019t want her to have more children.<\/p>\n

She told the judge:<\/p>\n

\u201cIn California, the only similar thing to this is called sex trafficking, making anyone work against their will, taking all their possessions away credit card, cash, phone, passport.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

It\u2019s a strong point. She added:<\/p>\n

\u201cMa\u2019am, my dad and anyone involved in this conservatorship, and my management, who played huge roles in punishing me when I said \u2018No\u2019 [to going on tour] \u2014 Ma\u2019am, they should be in jail.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

We feel so sad that she thought no one would believe her. It\u2019s a hell of a world where women still feel they can\u2019t come forward without being laughed at and called a liar.<\/p>\n

She didn\u2019t say what changed, but if we\u2019re being honest, it seems pretty obvious to us \u2014 the strength of the #FreeBritney movement reached her, letting her know she had a LOT of support waiting for her when she chose to break her silence. And that\u2019s just what happened.<\/p>\n
