Conan O\u2019Brien admitted his show straddled the line between \u201csmart\u201d and \u201cstupid.\u201d<\/p>\n

The talk-show host took the \u201cConan\u201d stage for the final time Thursday, marking the end of a storied late-night career that spanned 28 years. The chat-fest icon marked the emotional occasion with a poignant \u2014 and fittingly sidesplitting \u2014 monologue, in which he thanked fans and colleagues for joining him on the ride.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s hard to believe, it\u2019s hard to say, it\u2019s our final show on TBS,\u201d O\u2019Brien, 58, told the packed audience<\/a> at the opening of his last ever show on the network. \u201cEvery night, I always said, \u2018Tonight we have a really great show\u2019 and I have to tell you, I was often lying.\u201d <\/p>\n

However, the Massachusetts native assured fans that \u201ctonight we really do have a great show,\u201d before cheekily adding, \u201cAnd if we don\u2019t, what are you going to do about it? I\u2019ll be long gone.\u201d<\/p>\n

O\u2019Brien\u2019s heartfelt farewell also included a shout-out to his colleagues and crew, without whom he said \u201cConan\u201d wouldn\u2019t be possible. <\/p>\n

\u201cI am the beneficiary of literally hundreds and hundreds of amazing people and then I\u2019m just the nose cone of the rocket,\u201d gushed the late night legend.<\/a> He then proceeded to thank everyone from the crew at TBS to his faithful on-air sidekick Andy Richter, whom he described as \u201cone of the funniest people\u201d he\u2019d ever met. <\/p>\n

O\u2019Brien continued, \u201cI am so grateful to all of my staff and to the fans in this country and around the world who have joined me in this really crazy and seemingly pointless pursuit to do things that are kind of stupid but have something smart in there somewhere and there\u2019s a little tiny flicker of what is kind of magic.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMy advice to anyone watching right now is it is not easy to do but try and do what you love with people you love, and if you can manage that, it\u2019s the definition of heaven on earth,\u201d concluded the quirky comic.<\/p>\n

The \u201cConan\u201d finale included a Zoom call from funnyman Will Ferrell and a moving compilation of his celebrity interviews over the years, which included chats with entertainment greats from Tom Hanks to Betty White. <\/p>\n
