“#NYC journalist mocked for piece about trip<\/a> to Midwest<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

This guy\u2019s take on fly-over country crashed and burned. <\/p>\n

A journalist from Brooklyn got mercilessly mocked for a \u201ccondescending\u201d article about his trip to the Midwest \u2014\u00a0after\u00a0writing he was\u00a0stunned to find \u201cmore than just corn fields\u201d and even \u201ctrendy restaurants.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Insider article by Frank Olito<\/a> chronicles his recent road trip to Chicago and Detroit in an article titled, \u201cI\u2019m a New Yorker who visited the Midwest for the first time. Here are 15 things that surprised me.\u201d<\/p>\n

He then writes that he was shocked\u00a0 by \u201cwarm weather\u201d and \u201cmore than enough entertainment and culture to keep any traveler busy\u201d in the Rust Belt.<\/p>\n

The article, published this week, also muses that the Midwest had \u201clower prices,\u201d a \u201cslower pace\u201d and \u201cnice\u201d people. <\/p>\n

But critics quickly turned him into the butt of a joke on Twitter<\/a> \u2014 skewering him for being pompous and out-of-touch.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u201cI, a New Yorker, went to the Midwest and discovered they have real live peoples! Also, they have toilets!\u201d\u00a0 Iowa-based author Lyz Lenz tweeted<\/a> sarcastically.<\/p>\n

Others bashed him for framing Midwesterners as a bunch of rubes with no fine dining.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo s**t for brains we just go to the farm and suckle on some cow teet [sic],\u201d Chicago resident El Cunyado quipped.<\/a><\/p>\n

Others slammed the scribe for his no-duh observations while one user called the piece, \u201cprofoundly patronizing and asinine.\u201d<\/p>\n

Either a troll, or @frank_olito<\/a> writes at a 7th grade level. Although my favorite part is when he talks about how Chicagoans have “pride” in their city and then there is a picture of boystown as “Chicago’s proudest neighborhood” https:\/\/t.co\/x9VxqDpVyQ<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cFrank Olito, a New Yorker, went to two of the biggest cities in the Midwest and discovered they\u2019re different from New York! But also the same!\u201d author Sam Brunson tweeted <\/a>snarkily.<\/p>\n

In the article, Olito, who lives in Brooklyn, also writes, \u201cTo my surprise, many Midwesterners told me winters weren\u2019t as bad as New Yorkers made them out to be.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cThere\u2019s an emptiness to the Midwest that I\u2019m not used to as a New Yorker.\u201d<\/p>\n

His Twitter <\/a>page describes him as a \u201csometimes comedian, most times writer living in New York City.\u201d\n <\/div>\n
