A 65-year-old woman originally from Long Island is among the 159 people still missing after the deadly Florida condo tower collapse \u2014 and her family said the \u201cwaiting is torture.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Judy Spiegel was staying at the Champlain Towers South in Surfside, near Miami Beach, when part of the building collapsed into rubble around 1:30 a.m. Thursday, according to reports.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Her family lived on Long Island and in Westchester before ultimately settling in Florida, WPIX reported<\/a>.\u00a0She is originally from the town of Plainview, according to WCBS.<\/a><\/p>\n

The family had bought the condo about 4\u00bd years ago, and Judy had been staying there full-time throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, according to WPIX.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Her daughter, Rachel Spiegel, told the outlet she had just had a \u201cpositive conversation\u201d with her mother the night before the collapse.<\/p>\n

They had just discussed a princess dress that Judy had ordered for one of Rachel\u2019s daughters, CNN reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Rachel described the scene as \u201chorrific\u201d and \u201cindescribable,\u201d and said that her mind has been racing with questions, including, \u201cWhy did this happ<\/a>en?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWaiting is torture,\u201d she told WPIX.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Judy Spiegel, who has three children and three grandchildren, is \u201cthe most selfless person,\u201d according to her daughter.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cYou know, we just want to be with our mom,\u201d Rachel told WCBS. \u201cWhat we\u2019re hoping for is they\u2019ll find her quickly and that she\u2019s still alive.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cShe was the best, our best friend,\u201d her son Josh Spiegel told the network. \u201cI can\u2019t live without her.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cMy mom is an absolutely amazing person,\u201d Josh, who lives in Orlando, added to CNN. \u201cShe\u2019s a fighter, and she fights for every single one of us, and we won\u2019t stop \u2026 fighting until we find her.\u201d<\/p>\n

Judy\u2019s husband, Kevin Spiegel, lived in the towers with his wife but told the network he was on a business trip<\/a> in California at the time of the collapse.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have a lot of hope that Judy is still alive, and still there,\u201d her husband said. \u201cShe\u2019s an amazing person.\u201d<\/p>\n

Four people were confirmed dead in the collapse Friday.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
