{"id":285477,"date":"2021-06-28T00:31:56","date_gmt":"2021-06-27T21:31:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/51st-annual-pride-parade-virtual-for-second-year-in-a-row\/"},"modified":"2021-06-28T00:31:56","modified_gmt":"2021-06-27T21:31:56","slug":"51st-annual-pride-parade-virtual-for-second-year-in-a-row","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/51st-annual-pride-parade-virtual-for-second-year-in-a-row\/","title":{"rendered":"#51st annual Pride Parade virtual for second year in a row"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#51st annual Pride Parade virtual for second year in a row<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The 51st annual Pride Parade in the Big <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">App<\/a>le was a virtual celebration for the second year in a row Sunday \u2014 bringing a renewed focus to black members of the LBGTQIA+ community.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPride for me is about how we work in earnest to truly include all of us across the spectrum of identities in our struggle for freedom and liberation,\u201d said actor Wilson Cruz, one of the parade\u2019s Grand Marshals, in a pre-recorded video aired during the event.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen we elevate more voices, we will create a fuller picture of who we actually are. I can\u2019t separate the movement for black lives from the pride movement. In my mind and experience, they are inextricably linked.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The three-hour event was live streamed on ABC <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">News<\/a> and included a host of interviews with transgender, black activists and nonprofit leaders who support black and queer New Yorkers, as well as a <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a> of musical performances and some limited street-side marching.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019s beautiful that we get to celebrate but I also love that we are uncovering more of our history so we are paying homage to all of our beautiful trans-cestors \u2026 they all live through us,\u201d said Raquel Willis, a transgender writer and activist and the former national organizer for the Transgender Law Center.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI really believe that we all can make a commitment to <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social<\/a> justice and I just want to humanize the fact that it\u2019s a journey for all of us.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The celebration included performances from \u201cSupernova\u201d crooner Kat Cunning and Big Freedia \u2014 a black queer rapper who sang her hit song \u201cPlatinum\u201d while sporting a rainbow cape and a sparkling, silver selected to lead the parade, including Cruz, activist Ceyenne Doroshow and Menaka Guruswamy, a senior advocate with the Supreme Court of India who helped overturn a law that criminalized same-sex relationships.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Demetre Daskalakis, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention\u2019s HIV\/AIDs director, and Aaron Rose Philip, the first black, transgender and physically disabled model to ever be represented by a major agency, were also Grand Marshals.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>For the last three years, members of the Reclaim Pride Coalition have tried to move away from the large annual parade and provide an alternative option in the Queer Liberation March that seeks to bring the event back to its roots and away from its bevy of corporate sponsors.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure in-person, kicked off at 3 p.m. at Bryant Park and bills itself as the \u201cantidote to the corporate-infused, police-entangled, politician-heavy Parades that now dominate Pride celebrations in a grotesque expression of societal forms of marginalization and oppression for Queer and Trans people.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Video of the event posted to social media shows thousands of rainbow-clad marchers flooding Seventh Avenue in Manhattan with a few banners, signs and not a float in sight.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDown with rainbow capitalism,\u201d one sign read.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cQueers
