“#MTV offered to make second season of NBC’s \u2018Freaks and Geeks\u2019<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

Over two decades later, a 1999 cult TV show\u2019s cancellation is still a sore spot for fans.<\/p>\n

\u201cFreaks and Geeks,\u201d<\/a> which aired for only one season before being canceled, has long been more than a one-hit wonder for fans, who often lament and question the cancellation.<\/p>\n

The show\u2019s creator, Paul Feig, and executive producer, Judd Apatow, recently revealed there was a secret proposal to renew it for a second season \u2014 but they didn\u2019t move forward with the plans.<\/p>\n

Feig and Apatow told Collider<\/a> that the beloved show was actually given the opportunity for another season, but with MTV, not its originator NBC.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen the show was canceled, there was an offer from MTV to continue making the show at a much lower budget,\u201d Apatow said. \u201cAnd we all decided we didn\u2019t want to do a weaker version of the show.\u201d<\/p>\n

The pair explained that the show wouldn\u2019t be able to carry on as they had initially envisioned in terms of production.<\/p>\n

\u201cI remember hearing that [MTV offered to pick us up],\u201d Feig said. \u201cWe probably just had to lose so much stuff and music and budgets. We were already always strained on our budget as it was.\u201d<\/p>\n

Although a collective decision, Feig reflected on what could have been. \u201cAnd then very quickly after the decisions were made, then you\u2019re kind of like, \u2018Oh my God, what did we do? Could we have pulled it off if we had done it?\u2019 \u201d<\/p>\n

However, Feig said he does not regret the decision to end the show and maintains the series<\/a> finale did provide closure for the characters.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat whole episode was about how everybody gets put on a different path,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd we do that at the end of the series because it\u2019s like when you graduate high school, you don\u2019t know where half the people you went to high school with go.\u201d<\/p>\n
