President Biden on Monday vowed Iran won\u2019t develop nuclear weapons \u201con my watch\u201d as he hosted outgoing Israeli President Reuven Rivlin at the White House.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat I can say to you, Iran will never get a nuclear weapon on my watch, as they say,\u201d Biden told Rivlin in the Oval Office.<\/p>\n

Biden spoke amid early reports that US troops in Syria came under fire following overnight US airstrikes on pro-Iran militias in Syria and Iraq.<\/p>\n

Biden did not address the subsequent reports of US troops coming under fire in Syria, but said, \u201cI directed last night\u2019s airstrikes targeting sites used by the Iranian-backed militia groups responsible for recent attacks on US personnel in Iraq.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cI have that authority under Article II [of the Constitution] and even those up in the Hill who are reluctant to acknowledge that have acknowledged that\u2019s the case.\u201d<\/p>\n

Many Democrats in Congress are pushing Biden to rejoin the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, from which former President Donald Trump withdrew the US arguing it did too little to constrain the Islamic theocracy. <\/p>\n

The US and Israel have cooperated on efforts to sabotage Iran\u2019s nuclear program \u2014 including the successful 2006 plan to\u00a0use the\u00a0Stuxnet\u00a0virus<\/a>\u00a0to destroy nuclear centrifuges.<\/p>\n

While hosting Rivlin, Biden app<\/a>lauded Israel on a recent series<\/a> of diplomatic deals that gained the country diplomatic recognition from four Arab states. He didn\u2019t mention that former President Donald Trump and his son-in-law Jared Kushner brokered those deals.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m looking forward to hosting Prime Minister Bennett at the White House very soon. And the US fully supports normalization of the relationship between Israel and Middle Eastern countries that you\u2019re making some headway on, and in Africa as well and beyond,\u201d Biden said.<\/p>\n

The 78-year-old US president also gushed to his 81-year-old Israeli counterpart about the adult daughter, Anat Rivlin.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not technically appropriate, but I\u2019m so delighted his daughter is here, she\u2019s in the back right there. \u2026 I got to meet her and talk about our kids and grandkids and all the like,\u201d Biden said.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
