Iconoclast: Politicized Pharmaceuticals<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cCan a drug be \u2018right-wing\u2019? \u201d asks Matt Taibbi at his TK News<\/a>. Ivermectin, which has shown promise treating severe COVID cases, \u201chas suffered the same fate as\u201d many \u201ctopics since Donald Trump\u201d announced his presidential run, inhabiting \u201cseparate factual universes for left and right audiences,\u201d with news<\/a> \u201cclearly in the public interest\u201d censored. \u201cShould people on their deathbeds be allowed to try anything to save themselves?\u201d That\u2019s a \u201cno-brainer,\u201d but hospitals have gone \u201cto extraordinary lengths to refuse treatment even with dying patients who\u2019d exhausted all other options.\u201d It\u2019s \u201cbecome a test case\u201d for \u201chow much input patients should have in their own treatment\u201d and \u201chostage to a larger global fight between populists and anti-populists.\u201d The former think \u201cofficials are prone to lying and can\u2019t be trusted,\u201d while the latter associate \u201cunapp<\/a>roved cures with political theories of stolen elections.\u201d A polarized populace can no longer agree on anything, \u201ceven if their lives depend on it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Conservative: Stop Obsession With Skin Color<\/strong><\/p>\n

At The Washington Times, Everett Piper begs <\/a>Americans to \u201cplease stop talking about \u2018white\u2019 people and \u2018black\u2019 people.\u201d Millions of Americans \u201cjust don\u2019t care what color you are,\u201d and the \u201cracist nonsense\u201d is tearing the country apart. Even in churches, \u201cthe transparent enablement of us-against-them is rampant,\u201d inspired by the sermons of pastors whose agenda it is to \u201cbalkanize us into competing groups with irreconcilable demands.\u201d The pulpits \u201cpreaching this nonsense are pumping spiritual carcinogens into a cultural cancer that grows more malignant with each passing day, inevitably resulting in more exclusion rather than inclusion, more segregation rather than integration.\u201d We are and must remain \u201cone nation under God, indivisible.\u201d<\/p>\n

Historian: The Cruelty of Progressivism<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThe new progressivism,\u201d Victor Davis Hanson thunders at American Greatness<\/a>, \u201cis a cruel creed\u201d that \u201cenvisions humanity as a marbleized abstraction, not incarnate humans. . . . And the carnage it wreaks on the masses is always acceptable damage.\u201d So de facto open borders telegraph the left\u2019s \u201cmorally superior commitment,\u201d no matter \u201cthe ensuing collateral damage,\u201d such as \u201ccartel predation on the vulnerable, the overtaxing of social<\/a>-welfare services at the expense of American poor, greater rates of crime and gang violence,\u201d etc. Similarly, \u201cif it is a choice between reducing the some 700 shooting deaths of blacks in Chicago by increasing the police presence to protect inner-city residents, and thereby losing the progressive narrative of an epidemic of out-of-control racist rogue cops, then inner-city violence is a tolerable price.\u201d<\/p>\n

Urban beat: Backlash by the Bay<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cCitizens\u2019 cries\u201d for officials to clean up Dodge Place \u2014 a residential San Francisco street that has become a drug-ravaged dystopia \u2014 \u201chave gone virtually unanswered,\u201d laments Erica Sandberg at City Journal<\/a>. The area is now \u201ca particularly intense concentration\u201d of misery. Yet there\u2019s \u201conly so much law enforcement can do\u201d; DA Chesa Boudin \u201cresists prosecuting\u201d dealers arrested by cops. Other officials \u201cjustify their inaction by citing rhetoric that the war on drugs does little more than incarcerate marginalized people.\u201d But a \u201cbacklash\u201d from voters is \u201cstrengthening\u201d: Boudin faces a recall election. A recent poll found 76 percent of citizens want more cops in high-crime areas. \u201cOfficials who want to keep their seats or run for higher office will face the wrath of voters who are no longer complacent.\u201d<\/p>\n

Culture critic: Victoria\u2019s Secret\u2019s Feminist Ruse<\/strong><\/p>\n

Victoria\u2019s Secret is rebranding itself \u2014 but, warns Kristina Murkett at Spectator USA<\/a>, \u201cdon\u2019t be fooled: This has little to do with female empowerment.\u201d The lingerie firm recently announced it would replace its sexy catwalkers with \u201caccomplished women who share a common passion to drive positive change,\u201d as a statement put it, including \u201cUS soccer player Megan Rapinoe, Chinese-American freestyle skier Eileen Gu, plus-size model Paloma Elsesser,\u201d as well as a trans woman. Get real, Murkett says: \u201cThis is a marketing tactic by a flagging brand to regain some semblance of cultural relevance (and revenue). . . . Its products are overpriced and its sizes are limited, misleading and inconsistent.\u201d Hence, this sad-sack marketing Hail Mary. <\/p>\n
