The man stabbed in the Staten Island ferry terminal over the weekend was a good Samaritan who was trying to defend a woman from an app<\/a>arently drunk man who had been harassing her, he said.<\/p>\n

Dylan Spinosa, 20, told NBC 4 New York<\/a> he had just returned to the St. George Ferry Terminal Sunday night when he and his friends spotted a stranger, identified by police as Eric Shields, 47, in the terminal bothering every woman in his path.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery female he passed, he had to say something sexual,\u201d Spinosa said. \u201cHe was telling them how all women have to sell their nudes online, how they have to sell their bodies.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shields, of Norfolk, Va., briefly relented after Spinosa and a 30-year-old man shooed him away \u2014 but he returned, Spinosa said.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow he was practically following this woman who was like, \u2018Leave me alone, please stop,\u2019 and he\u2019s telling her he\u2019s going to do all this sexual stuff to her,\u2019\u201d Spinosa said.<\/p>\n

So Spinosa \u2014 who was returning from his first night out in the city since the pandemic began \u2014 and the other man stepped in once again.<\/p>\n

The older man, who declined to give his name, told CBS 2<\/a> the suspect called him a homophobic slur.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe looked at me and said, \u2018Um, what are you looking at?\u2019 and then he said the F-word and I proceeded to step up to him,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Shields allegedly socked him in the face \u2014 and when Spinosa stepped in to separate the two, he became the new target.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs we were walking away, my friend screamed,\u201d Spinosa told NBC. \u201cAs I turned, it felt like he punched me.\u201d<\/p>\n

He had actually been stabbed, according to police. A knife was lodged in his back, and blood trickled down to his leg, he told the network.<\/p>\n

He was taken to Richmond University Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, as was the other good Samaritan, according to police.<\/p>\n

When reached by the Post Tuesday, a woman who answered the phone at Dylan\u2019s home said he couldn\u2019t talk because he wasn\u2019t feeling well and had to return to the emergency room.<\/p>\n

Spinosa, who wants to become a firefighter, told NBC that he \u201cabsolutely\u201d would step in again if he found himself in the same situation.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThere would be no hesitation,\u201d\u00a0he said.<\/p>\n

Shields was arrested and charged with second-degree assault, criminal possession of a weapon, menacing and harassment, cops said.<\/p>\n

The NYPD\u2019s Hate Crimes Task Force has been notified and is investigating, police said Tuesday.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
