“#Kakegurui Writer Apologizes for Canceled Dark Isekai Manga<\/a>, Slime Creator Responds<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

This month saw both the first chapter debut and the prompt cancellation<\/span><\/a> of Isekai Tenseisha Goroshi -Cheat Slayer-<\/i><\/b>, or Killing the People Reincarnated into Another World -Cheat Slayer-<\/i><\/b>, which comes from Kakegurui <\/i><\/b>writer Homura Kawamoto. The story involved characters modeled after actual isekai series protagonists being brutally punished for using ‘cheat skills’ in this new world, and the creator has since come out with an apology.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Kawamoto apologized for the “pain, concerns, and fuss” caused over the manga’s launch, going on to say they were ashamed of the incident and will reflect on\u00a0this shame to create better works in the future.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Among the many\u00a0titles that had their characters parodied with a dark twist was\u00a0That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime<\/i><\/b><\/span><\/a>. The author behind that and the author of the\u00a0Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation <\/i><\/b>series both\u00a0commented on the matter after the manga’s’ cancellation.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Slime<\/i><\/b><\/span><\/a> <\/i><\/b>author Fuse <\/b>responded to the apology in a blog, a portion of which mentioned how important a character’s image is to an author. They went on to ask those who do parodies of other’s works not to “overdo it.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mushoku Tensei <\/i><\/b>author Rifujin na Magonote <\/b>was pretty clear on what is and isn’t okay in a tweet. While they said it’s no problem to make “so-called isekai cheat protagonists” into villains and make them do “vile things,” it becomes a little more of a problem, but not a major one, to make them look “recognizably borrowed from characters from other works.”<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

The author pumps the brakes when it comes to combining the two, though, saying it’s a problem when they’re recognizable from other works and <\/i>villains doing horrible things. This, Rifujin na Magonote says, is “crossing the line.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

Well, there will be no more line-crossing in this particular situation, that’s for sure. The editors of Kadokawa’s Monthly Dragon Age <\/i>magazine were quick to cancel the series and issue an apology of their own.\u00a0<\/p>\n
