Researchers, who published their findings in Pediatric Obesity, found that each additional hour spent on screen time was associated with a higher body mass index in 9-10<strong>\u2013<\/strong>year-olds one year later.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s more, researchers said, is that the weight gain may not just be the result of sedentary behavior, but also that exposure to <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social media<\/a> and \u201cunattainable body ideals,\u201d could lead to subsequent overeating.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The data was pulled from 11,066 preteens who are part of the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development Study. They were asked questions pertaining to time spent on six different forms of screen time including television, social media, texting, YouTube, video chatting and video <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a>s. The team noted in a\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.eurekalert.org\/pub_releases\/2021-06\/uot-est062821.php\">press release posted to EurekAlert.org<\/a>\u00a0that the study occurred prior to the pandemic.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Researchers said at the start of the study 33.7 percent of the children were considered overweight or obese and a year later, it increased to 35.5 percent, \u201ca proportion that is expected to rise in the late teens and early adulthood.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe study was conducted prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, but its findings are especially relevant for the pandemic,\u201d Jason Nagata, MD, lead study author and assistant professor of pediatrics at the University of California, San Francisco, said. \u201cWith remote learning, the cancellation of youth sports and isolation, children have been exposed to unprecedented levels of screen time.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Nagata noted that while screen time can provide benefits like education and socialization, parents \u201cshould try to mitigate risks from excessive screen time\u201d including increased sedentary time and decreased physical activity.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cParents should regularly talk to their children about screen-time usage and develop a family media use plan,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Previous studies on childhood obesity have found a rise in prevalence during the COVID-19 pandemic. One analysis from the\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/pediatrics.aappublications.org\/content\/147\/5\/e2021050123\">American Academy of Pediatrics<\/a>, which evaluated pediatric <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ointments from January 2019 to December 2020 found obesity levels rose among all age ranges, but was more pronounced in patients ages 5-9.\u00a0\n            <\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
