Episode 4 of <strong><em>Loki<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0is easily the most groundbreaking one yet. After the previous episode concluded on the cliffhanger of Loki (<strong>Tom Hiddleston<\/strong>) and Sylvie (<strong>Sophia Di Martino<\/strong>) all but left for dead on the doomed world of Lamentis-1, \u201cThe Nexus Event\u201d upped the ante in a massive way. Having been rescued in a last-minute intervention by Mobius (<strong>Owen Wilson<\/strong>) and dragged back to the Time Variance Authority in handcuffs, the two Variants ultimately find themselves face-to-face with the mysterious Time Keepers themselves.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s here where we\u2019re hit with three sledgehammer-like plot twists in quick succession: Mobius is disintegrated before our eyes by a now-unmasked Ravonna Renslayer (<strong>Gugu Mbatha-Raw<\/strong>) who has <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>arently turned heel; Sylvie uncovers, to her horror, that the Time Keepers themselves aren\u2019t even real in the first place and only \u201cmindless androids\u201d; and <em>then<\/em>\u00a0there\u2019s the ostensible disintegration of the Loki Variant we\u2019ve been following all along, leading to the mid-credits scene that we simply have to talk about.<br \/>\n<!-- SlashFilm_300x250_In_Post -->Seriously, <strong>spoilers galore<\/strong> are about to follow. Proceed only if you dare.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-679873 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/d13ezvd6yrslxm.cloudfront.net\/wp\/wp-content\/images\/Loki-mid-credits-700x293.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"293\" srcset=\"https:\/\/d13ezvd6yrslxm.cloudfront.net\/wp\/wp-content\/images\/Loki-mid-credits-700x293.png 700w, https:\/\/d13ezvd6yrslxm.cloudfront.net\/wp\/wp-content\/images\/Loki-mid-credits-360x151.png 360w, https:\/\/d13ezvd6yrslxm.cloudfront.net\/wp\/wp-content\/images\/Loki-mid-credits-768x322.png 768w, https:\/\/d13ezvd6yrslxm.cloudfront.net\/wp\/wp-content\/images\/Loki-mid-credits.png 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Midway through the credits, we\u2019re treated to an unexpected scene where Hiddleston\u2019s Loki wakes up in a ruined, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/rGSJUZOPo-M\"><em><strong>Inception<\/strong><\/em>-like<\/a> wasteland. Despite his fears of being stuck in the Bad Place, he\u2019s not actually dead! He\u2019s\u2026 somewhere else (hint: check out that ruined husk of Avengers Tower in the screenshot above). And what\u2019s more, he\u2019s got company.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAm I dead?\u201d Loki poses to himself. \u201cNot yet,\u201d\u00a0comes the answer from a disembodied, yet oddly familiar voice. \u201cBut you will be, unless you come with us.\u201d<br \/>\n<!-- SlashFilm_300x250_In_Post_2 -->As it turns out, there\u2019s more Loki Variants out there in the rapidly-fracturing multiverse than we were initially led to believe.\u00a0We\u2019ve previously been aware of the fact that venerated actor\u00a0<strong>Richard E. Grant<\/strong> would be showing up in <em>Loki<\/em> sooner or later, but none of us could have possibly expected such a hilariously shocking first appearance. Dressed in a classic throwback Loki outfit, Grant would seem to be none other than the original Loki, ripped straight out of the pages of the 1960s Marvel comics. Flanking him is\u00a0<strong>Jack Veal<\/strong>,\u00a0who appears to be portraying <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/marvel.fandom.com\/wiki\/Loki_Laufeyson_(Kid_Loki)_(Earth-616)\">Kid Loki<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 the beloved character reborn as a memory-less child after his familiar adult counterpart sacrificed himself to stop his own villainous plans. There\u2019s also\u00a0<strong>Deobia Oparei<\/strong>, another Variant wielding an interesting-looking weapon. Credited merely as \u201cBoastful Loki,\u201d that surely looks rather Mjolnir-esque, no? In a branching multiverse with infinite potential, would it be terribly outside the realm of possibility that one version of Thor and Loki may actually be one and the same? After all, there\u2019s also an alien crocodile Loki, complete with a horned helmet of his own.<\/p>\n<p><em>Loki<\/em> has finally dropped us in the deep end of the cosmic pool, folks, and it\u2019s only going to get weirder and more fun from here on out.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-679715 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/d13ezvd6yrslxm.cloudfront.net\/wp\/wp-content\/images\/loki-timekeepers-poster-frontpage-700x300.jpg\" alt=\"Loki Poster\" width=\"700\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/d13ezvd6yrslxm.cloudfront.net\/wp\/wp-content\/images\/loki-timekeepers-poster-frontpage.jpg 700w, https:\/\/d13ezvd6yrslxm.cloudfront.net\/wp\/wp-content\/images\/loki-timekeepers-poster-frontpage-360x154.jpg 360w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_Does_This_Mean_Moving_Forward\"><\/span>What Does This Mean Moving Forward?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>So far, <em>Loki<\/em> has followed a rather straightforward course despite its timeline shenanigans. The first two episodes steadily lulled Loki into thinking that the TVA are exactly who they say they are: benevolent and predestined beings charged with the sole purpose of \u201cpruning\u201d variant branches of the Sacred Timeline and keeping order. Now, however, the secret\u2019s out. Through her memory-manipulating powers, Sylvie reveals that every TVA agent is a Variant themselves. Rather than being created by the almighty Time Keepers and burdened with their own sense of glorious purpose, the truth is quite a bit darker.<\/p>\n<p>After being stuck in that godforsaken version of New York City for who knows how long, it\u2019s reasonable to assume that these new Variants are more than aware of the TVA\u2019s treachery and will quickly get our Loki Variant up to speed on where exactly he fits into things. It\u2019s been a clever progression from the outset, as the writers have carefully made Loki feel smaller and more insignificant in the face of time-bending and universe-sized conflicts far beyond his comprehension. This mid-credits scene is merely that same progression taken to the next logical extreme, as Loki will now have to come to terms with yet <em>more<\/em> versions of himself after only just seeing Sylvie for the victim, ally, and friend (and more???) that she is.<br \/>\n<!-- SlashFilm_300x250_In_Post_3 -->Adding more fuel to the fire is the fact that Richard E. Grant\u2019s original Loki and Kid Loki have well-established roots in the comics. That\u2026 isn\u2019t exactly the same case for the other two variants. Marvel\u2019s always played fast and loose with the source material being adapted for any given film or television <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a>, so it\u2019s only fitting that <em>Loki<\/em>\u00a0serves as a jumping-off point where Marvel goes wildly off-script to deliver something truly original.<\/p>\n<p>Personally, I have to imagine that this hammer-wielding Loki will serve as even more of a mirror to our own Loki as Sylvie has. For the resident narcissist with a penchant for falling in love with anyone up to and including, uh, himself, how could he possibly resist someone literally titled \u201cBoastful Loki\u201d? In terms of plot mechanics, everything is now up for grabs now that Renslayer\u2019s facade has crumbled and the TVA will now have to reckon with their backstories. The bait-and-switch involving the Time-Keepers might just be the MCU\u2019s most exciting development since our heroes personally led to the disbanding of SHIELD in <em><strong>Captain America: The Winter Soldier<\/strong><\/em>. In the same way that that plot development led to more creative avenues moving forward, <em>Loki<\/em>\u00a0has successfully set itself up for a thrilling dash to the end.<\/p>\n<p>To this point, these Disney+ shows have been prime opportunities to really dig deep into the previously-unexplored psyche and inner workings of Marvel characters who maybe didn\u2019t get reach their full potential in the MCU proper. When it comes to the God of Mischief, so far so good.
