Libertarian: Justice Thomas\u2019 Pot Rebuke<\/strong><\/p>\n

Tolkien\u2019s work through \u201cthe most pressing concerns of the modern and woke left \u2014 diversity, inclusivity and, above all, sexuality,\u201d with such topics as \u201cGondor in Transition: A Brief Introduction to Transgender Realities in \u2018The Lord of the Rings\u2019\u200a\u201d and \u201c\u200a\u2018Something Mighty Queer\u2019: Destabilizing Cishetero Amatonormativity in the Works of Tolkien.\u201d But \u201cTolkien\u2019s work transcends \u2018wokeness.\u2019\u200a\u201d A new Amazon LOTR series<\/a> will reportedly \u00ad\u201cdepict a rather sexualized Middle Earth, having been influenced by \u2018Game<\/a> of Thrones.\u2019\u200a\u201d Too bad: \u201cContrary to what the woke crowd might contend (or pretend), all of Tolkien\u2019s mythology was rooted in his deep and abiding Christian faith.\u201d<\/p>\n

Conservative: Watch the Race-Theory Wars<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThe defenders of critical race theory frequently create a maze of distinctions,\u201d Peter Wood warns at Spectator World<\/a>: They pretend it \u201chas nothing to do with\u201d the 1619 Project, Ibram X. Kendi or the diversity, equity and inclusion curricula imposed in many schools. Yet the public \u201cfully understands that the basic message of CRT is that America is \u2018systemically racist,\u2019 that white people hoarding their privileges is the engine of systemic racism and that nothing short of a total transformation of American society can bring about \u2018racial justice.\u2019\u200a\u201d And \u201cfor once, the numbers and the \u00adenergy are on the side of those who seek to uphold traditional values and accurate history. Foreign desk: China\u2019s Doubtful Economic Future<\/strong><\/p>\n

China\u2019s economic growth despite Beijing\u2019s repression suggests Milton Friedman got it wrong in 2003 when he predicted the country would grow freer as its economy became more capitalistic, notes The Wall Street Journal\u2019s William McGurn<\/a>. \u201cGratitude may no longer be part of the lives of young Americans,\u201d worries Jeremy Adams at Public Discourse<\/a>. That\u2019s concerning, because gratitude \u201callows us to appreciate how things are, what has already been given, and how blessed human life is because of people and actions of the past.\u201d The \u201cwhole hodgepodge of values that young Americans now embrace\u201d tends to \u201cbreed a spiritual sickness that shows itself in outrage and a sense of victimhood toward supposed impersonal historical forces and rigid hierarchies.\u201d The pandemic\u2019s end \u201cis an ideal time to teach our young people that gratitude is always appropriate, no matter how flawed the world may be.\u201d <\/p>\n
