“#TLC FINALLY Cancels Counting On Following Josh Duggar’s Arrest

\nFinally, the long national nightmare is over. The Duggars have been canceled.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday\u00a0TLC<\/strong> announced the long-overdue decision to cancel\u00a0Counting On<\/em>, the spinoff series<\/a> of\u00a019 Kids and Counting<\/em>, amid the legal troubles of one of its stars,\u00a0Josh Duggar<\/strong>. Sorry, by \u201clegal troubles\u201d we mean his arrest on charges of receiving and possessing child pornography in April.<\/p>\n

In a statement, the network explained:<\/p>\n

\u201cTLC will not be producing additional seasons of Counting On<\/em>. TLC feels it is important to give the Duggar family the opportunity to address their situation privately.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Interesting. Amid calls to #CancelTheDuggars, TLC\u2019s previous statement about the scandal was to defend themselves, saying at the time:<\/p>\n

\u201c19 Kids and Counting<\/em> has not aired since 2015. TLC canceled the show on the heels of prior allegations against Josh Duggar and he has not app<\/a>eared on air since then.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

It\u2019s true. Back during his first scandal, in which he admitted to having molested his younger sisters and their friends, TLC made a big show of canceling 19 Kids<\/em>. Many critics saw the reality show focusing on a fundamentalist religious family as normalizing a disturbing view on sex. Considering the nature of the scandal, it only seemed right to end it.<\/p>\n

Buuuut shortly afterward they launched a spinoff focusing on daughters\u00a0Jill Dillard<\/strong> and Jessa Seewald<\/strong> instead of the rest of the family. Jill & Jessa: <\/em>Counting On<\/em> was a chance for the victims to tell their stories, right? They weren\u2019t their parents, they were grown women navigating a new world beyond their parents. So that was fine, right?<\/p>\n

Well, as it turns out, not so much. The Jill & Jessa<\/em> part quickly fell off, as Jill left the show. Viewers will note\u00a0Counting On<\/em> has slowly evolved (though we\u2019re sure they wouldn\u2019t like us using that word) into\u00a019 Kids And Counting<\/em> all over again. And that\u2019s by design.<\/p>\n

Jill revealed last year that she was never paid for\u00a0Jill & Jessa: <\/em>Counting On<\/em> despite her name being in the title. All the money was still going to the same person as it always was for both shows: her father,\u00a0Jim Bob Duggar<\/strong>. Later on Jill\u2019s husband, Derick Dillard<\/strong>, explained to fans the whole thing wasn\u2019t referred to as a cancellation but a \u201crebranding\u201d behind the scenes. Same show, just a new name \u2014 so the network didn\u2019t have to completely end a profitable show.<\/p>\n

If it\u2019s still the same show, you can\u2019t blame people for wanting TLC to finally cancel it FOR REAL this time \u2014 especially when the money is going to Jim Bob, who had essentially covered for Josh all those years \u2014 keeping his transgressions quiet, leaving him to go out and allegedly commit more sex crimes.<\/p>\n

Speaking of Josh\u2019s criminal charges, his pretrial was supposed to begin this week, on July 1. However, the court granted his request to push the trial back to November 30, meaning the pretrial will start a couple weeks beforehand on November 12.<\/p>\n

No word yet if TLC is going to fight\u00a0Court TV<\/strong> for the rights to air it. What do YOU think of\u00a0Counting<\/em> finally getting canceled for good??<\/p>\n
