Restaurateur Shelly Fireman said he\u2019s \u201cscared [bleep]less\u201d by Times Square shootings that landed on Page One of The Post \u2014 but not enough to stop him from reopening Bond 45, his West 46th Street Italian eatery that was closed since March 2020.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The jumbo-size favorite of theatergoers, tourists and showbiz boldfaces reopened its doors last week, while other large Times Square-area eateries such as Sardi\u2019s, Carmine\u2019s, Barbetta and Virgil\u2019s BBQ remain dark.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThe world isn\u2019t coming to an end that quickly,\u201d Fireman said of the recent uptick in crime. There have been no incidents near Bond 45 since a ricocheted bullet wounded a tourist outside The Marriott Marquis hotel Sunday, he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Fireman said three factors drove him to reopen the nearly 300-seat, two-level trattoria in the Edison Hotel. The Art Deco-style venue boasts roomy leather booths, dark wood trim, colorful murals and a racy nude female likeness sculpted by Fireman himself.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThe hotel asked us to,\u201d he said. \u201cWe have PPP money we have to spend. And the streets are crowded again, even before Broadway comes back in September,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Although office workers have yet to return in large numbers and most theaters won\u2019t reopen until September, Times Square\u2019s foot traffic rebounded from 33,000 daily visitors in April 2020 to more than 140,000 last month and even higher on weekends.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were obligated to give it our shot,\u201d Fireman said, borrowing a line from the great show-stopping number from \u201cHamilton,\u201d which plays down the block from Bond 45.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Bond 45 bowed in the fall of 2018 at its new location on West 46th Street four years after his former landlord on West 45th Street wouldn\u2019t renew his lease. It quickly drew actors, musicians and producers from \u201cHamilton\u201d at the Richard Rodgers Theater and from two other shows on the block.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The restaurant hosted bashes for \u201cHamilton,\u201d \u201cDear Evan Hansen\u201d and \u201cKinky Boots.\u201d Late-night drop-ins included opera great Renee Fleming, Barry Manilow, Jimmy Buffett and Vanessa Williams.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Times Square Alliance president Tom Harris hailed the reopening. \u201cThe opening of iconic Bond 45 in the heart of Times Square gets us a step closer to the city\u2019s recovery,\u201d he said.\u00a0\n <\/p><\/div>\n
