If that timeline seems impossible, that\u2019s because it is \u2014 not that this \u201cAdult Swim\u201d-esque cartoon cares. Directed by Matt Thompson and counting Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and \u201cArcher\u201d creator Adam Reed among its producers, the film brings an anarchic energy to the story of how many become one.<\/p>\n<p>Within the first few chaotic minutes, history has already been drastically revised: \u201cWe the people\u201d beats out \u201cus rich white dudes\u201d via a <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a> of beer pong as the Declaration of Independence is signed, only for Benedict Arnold (Andy Samberg) to arrive on the scene and literally blow up the Second Continental Congress; the traitor murders Lincoln (Will Forte) at Ford\u2019s Theater moments later. (Arnold, it should go without saying, is also a werewolf.) Everything that follows is just as violent, anachronistic, and ridiculous, not to mention funny. Though loyalists and sticklers for historical accuracy may not consider it their cup of tea, \u201cAmerica\u201d will likely win over anyone who knows not to take it too seriously.<\/p>\n<p>Chainsaws notwithstanding, even George Washington (Channing Tatum) isn\u2019t mighty enough to topple the \u201cfun police\u201d across the pond by his lonesome. His fellow patriots include Samuel Adams (Jason Mantzoukas), Paul Revere (Bobby Moynihan), Geronimo (Raoul Max Trujillo), and Thomas Edison (Olivia Munn), reimagined here as a Chinese woman \u2014 which is to say, not all the film\u2019s founding fathers are, strictly speaking, fathers. Their characterizations are <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ropriately over-the-top: Adams is a beer-swilling frat boy, Revere is a horse-loving manchild, and Edison is as much sorcerer as scientist; Geronimo, meanwhile, is the pessimistic straight man who\u2019s right to doubt his new allies\u2019 promises to return his people\u2019s land after they defeat the British together.<\/p>\n<p>Though lacking in novelty, this brand of (a)historical humor has demonstrated surprising staying power. The similarly tongue-in-cheek \u201cDrunk History\u201d began as a Funny or Die <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a> in 2007 and would likely still be on Comedy Central were it not for the pandemic, while \u201cAbraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter\u201d is only the tip of the presidents-with-supernatural-abilities iceberg. Speaking of icebergs, \u201cAmerica: The Motion Picture\u201d does indeed feature the Titanic sinking, albeit under different circumstances. No aspect of history is off-limits here, the result being a grab bag of references, battles, and jokes that are constantly trying to one-up each other in terms of absurdity.<\/p>\n<p>Though this style of humor isn\u2019t always laugh-a-minute, and the novelty does begin to wear off around the time that a half-horse, half-RoboCop hybrid shows up (don\u2019t ask), the film is so cheekily irreverent that it\u2019s hard not to admire its chutzpah even when you aren\u2019t actively chuckling. That\u2019s especially true given the debate (if it can even be called that) currently raging over how our nation\u2019s history should be taught in schools \u2014 with questions like \u201cwhat about your slaves?\u201d hurled at Washington et al. following their inevitable victory, the makers of \u201cAmerica\u201d prove themselves willing to grapple with the country\u2019s original sin.
