{"id":288991,"date":"2021-07-01T23:08:13","date_gmt":"2021-07-01T20:08:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/substack-signs-ex-forbes-writer-as-it-seeks-to-disrupt-book-publishing\/"},"modified":"2021-07-01T23:08:13","modified_gmt":"2021-07-01T20:08:13","slug":"substack-signs-ex-forbes-writer-as-it-seeks-to-disrupt-book-publishing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/substack-signs-ex-forbes-writer-as-it-seeks-to-disrupt-book-publishing\/","title":{"rendered":"#Substack signs ex-Forbes writer as it seeks to disrupt book publishing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#Substack signs ex-Forbes writer as it seeks to disrupt book publishing<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Substack, an online sub<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">script<\/a>ion platform for popular writers like Glenn Greenwald and Andrew Sullivan, appears to be setting its sights on disrupting the book publishing world.<\/p>\n<p>Former Forbes <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a> and entertainment writer Zack O\u2019Malley Greenburg has revealed to Media Ink that he has received an advance to write a book for Substack titled, \u201cWe Are All Musicians Now.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The book will be released on Substack later this month in a serialized format \u2014 with chapters dropping once a week. <\/p>\n<p>It will be the fifth book for Greenburg, who just <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2014\/05\/29\/top-consigliere-john-meneilly-leaves-jay-zs-team\/?\">completed a revised version<\/a> of \u201cEmpire State of Mind,\u201d about Jay-Z, for the Portfolio imprint of Penguin Random House that comes with the subtitle, \u201cBillionaire\u2019s Edition.\u201d  <\/p>\n<p>But Greenburg, who also wrote \u201cMichael Jackson Inc.\u201d for Simon &amp; Schuster, opted to go the Substack route for his next book because it offered him more financial upside, he said.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll in all, with the advance money being in the same ballpark, I\u2019d rather go to a place where I can be my own boss with a higher upside than try to force it through an old business model that I think is broken,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<p>Greenburg declined to say how much of an advance he received, but said it was comparable to what he\u2019s received for more traditional book publications. Writers can distribute their newsletters for free as they build a following or charge a subscription out of the gate.<\/p>\n<p>Greenburg said he will also offer a free newsletter on music, media and money starting this week at\u00a0zogblog.substack.com.<\/p>\n<p>The practice of dribbling out book chapters little by little is not new. It was popular well before even television, when magazines\u00a0and newspapers\u00a0used it to lure and keep readers coming back week after week.\u00a0Charles Dickens published \u201cOliver Twist\u201d in serialization form in London from 1837 to 1839, with the actual book only coming out midway through the serialization. After year one, Substack\u2019s cut <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a>ly falls back to ten percent for book authors, the spokeswoman said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In traditional book publishing, authors don\u2019t royalties until the advance is covered in full. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cSales of my first four books totaled over 100,000\u201d copies, Greenburg said. \u201cIf I can get a good percentage of them to follow me to Substack, I\u2019ll be happy.\u201d\n            <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
