A group of Republican House members invited Britney Spears Wednesday to address Congress, saying that her conservatorship battle <\/a>could influence policy and give \u201chope to millions.\u201d<\/p>\n

The letter, signed by Reps. Matt Gaetz, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Burgess Owens and Andy Biggs, noted the \u201cobvious financial, emotional and psychological abuse\u201d at the hands of Spears\u2019 conservators, and said her testimony could \u201cadvance social<\/a>, political, and criminal justice reform.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMs. Spears: You have been mistreated by America\u2019s legal system. We want to help. The United States Congress should hear your story and be inspired to bipartisan action. What happ<\/a>ened to you should never happen to any other American,\u201d the letter read.<\/p>\n

\u201cYour story is so powerful, and the admiration of your achievements so great, you (and perhaps only you) can blow that door wide open, giving hope to millions.\u201d<\/p>\n

The lawmakers\u2019 invite came a day after the singer lost her bid to have her \u201cabusive\u201d<\/a> father Jamie Spears removed from her 13-year conservatorship Wednesday, leaving the 39-year-old\u2019s estranged dad<\/a> in charge of her substantial finances and business affairs.<\/p>\n

Spears\u2019 ongoing plight \u2014 which spawned the \u201cFree Britney\u201d movement and sparked outrage across the globe \u2014 seems to have brought both sides of the aisle together.<\/p>\n

In a letter to the Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Justice on Thursday, Democratic Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Bob Casey said the conservatorship system is \u201csubstantially lacking\u201d in data, \u201chindering policymakers and advocates\u2019 efforts to understand gaps and abuses in the system.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMs. Spears\u2019 case has shined a light on longstanding concerns from advocates who have underscored the potential for financial and civil rights abuses of individuals placed under guardianship or conservatorship,\u201d the senators wrote in the joint letter<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Spears lost her bid to have her 68-year-old father jailed for his \u201cabusive\u201d control over her life and estimated $60 million fortune. The signer claimed she had been drugged, forced to take birth control and perform under duress. <\/p>\n

Jamie Spears has denied the accusations and said he has had nothing to do with the conservatorship for years.<\/p>\n

The Los Angeles Superior Court ruled Wednesday that Jamie Spears \u2014 who lives in a trailer<\/a> \u2014 will remain co-conservator\u00a0for now, finding the singer was \u201csubstantially unable to manage his or her financial resources or to resist fraud or undue influence,\u201d Variety reported.<\/p>\n

Another hearing in the case will reportedly be held later this month.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
