Former USC running back Reggie Bush can\u2019t get in on all the name, image, and likeness fun, but that\u2019s ok.<\/p>\n

He wants something else.<\/p>\n

Bush was forced to return the 2005 Heisman Trophy at the conclusion of a four-year extra-benefits investigation that uncovered Bush and his family accepted cash, payment for travel<\/a> and a house. They also accepted $10,000 to furnish it.<\/p>\n

In a statement released Thursday, Bush said he believes his Heisman should be returned and all his statistics should be reinstated.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is my strong belief that I won the Heisman trophy \u2018solely\u2019 due to my hard work and dedication on the football field and it is also my firm belief that my records should be reinstated,\u201d Bush said.<\/p>\n

The 36-year-old was forced to disassociate from his alma mater, although he was reinstated when the ban ended in June 2020. He called the banishment \u201cone of the worst feelings in the world\u201d and even compared the sanctions to death. USC also faced punishments, as they were banned from the postseason for two years and vacated 14 victories.<\/p>\n

During his 10-year ban, Bush was not allowed on campus and his name, stats and accomplishments were removed from the team\u2019s media<\/a> guide.<\/p>\n

But now, Bush wants a new narrative \u2014 he is taking action in an attempt to get his legacy back. The Spring Valley, Calif. native contacted the NCAA on multiple occasions to no avail.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe left multiple messages for Michael Comerford, the President of the Heisman Trust, but instead received a call from Rob Whalen, the Executive Director, who stated that Mr. Comerford would not be calling us back and that, in any event, they could not help us,\u201d Bush said.<\/p>\n

In three seasons at USC, Bush rushed for 3,169 yards and caught 95 passes for 1,301 yards. His 43 total touchdowns helped USC become a powerhouse and they won a FBS Football Championship in 2004.<\/p>\n

Following a successful college run, Bush embarked upon an 11-year NFL career, winning a Super Bowl with Drew Brees and the\u00a0New Orleans Saints in 2009.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
