Ben Feldman, fresh off of a six-year stint starring on popular NBC sitcom \u201cSuperstore,\u201d is joining the \u201cMonsters, Inc.\u201d franchise in \u201cMonsters at Work.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Premiering July 7 (Disney+), the series<\/a> is a sequel to the hit 2001 Pixar movie \u201cMonsters, Inc.\u201d which followed monster pals Sulley (John Goodman) and Mike Wazowski (Billy Crystal), who work at a factory that\u2019s powered by scaring human children.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cMonsters at Work\u201d is about the factory\u2019s transition to using\u00a0children\u2019s laughter as a power source instead of screams, and it centers on Tylor Tuskmon (Feldman), a recent Scare Major graduate from Monsters University who\u2019s starting a new job and idolizes Sulley and Mike.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThe parallels [between this show and \u2018Superstore\u2019] are plenty for me,\u201d Feldman, 41, told The Post.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cNot only is it a workplace sitcom, but my particular character is this guy who sort of landed in a place where he didn\u2019t expect to, feels a little bit better than everybody and doesn\u2019t think he belongs there. And then the show is about him trying to figure out how he fits in and learning to love the work family.\u201d<\/p>\n

Although he\u2019s done some voice work for \u201cBig Hero 6: The Series,\u201d this marks Feldman\u2019s debut as the star of an animated series.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cVoice acting always kind of felt like this club that I would never get into,\u201d he said. \u201cOnce you start doing it, you\u2019re part of the club and you do a whole bunch. You read the credits on these things and it\u2019s a lot of the same people, so I had sort of assumed, \u2018All right, I\u2019m not going to be the voice guy, nobody wants my voice.\u2019 And then this happ<\/a>ened, which was an incredible surprise and a total delight and it\u2019s so fun and super intimidating.\u00a0 And then you have John and Billy and all of these incredible actors in it. I\u2019m lucky that I even found a way in.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Tylor Tuskmon is a large and fearsome looking creature with horns and purple fur, but Feldman said his appearance changed during the making of \u201cMonsters at Work.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cEarlier on, he was a character that looked like my voice. He was more nerdy and yellow and lanky and awkward. Then \u2014 and this is one of my favorite decisions that anybody creating the show made \u2014 at some point, somebody must have said, \u2018Wait a minute, what if Tylor is a muscular brooding dark purple thing with horns? And then it\u2019s funny that Ben\u2019s voice is what comes out of that.\u2019 There was an evolution of this character, and I love that they did that. I think it\u2019s really fun. You don\u2019t expect a scary monster like that to sound like this guy.\u201d<\/p>\n

He didn\u2019t have to prepare for the role by watching any of the prior movies, he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI was a total fan of it, who isn\u2019t? When I\u2019ve said, \u2018I\u2019m doing this show, it\u2019s a continuation of the \u2018Monsters, Inc\u2019 world,\u2019 nobody responds with, \u2018Oh, what\u2019s that?\u2019 It\u2019s like Coca-Cola, I don\u2019t remember the first time I drank it, it\u2019s always kind of been there. That\u2019s what the \u2018Monsters\u2019 world is like to me. But then there\u2019s been a resurgence in the past few years because I\u2019ve had kids.\u201d<\/p>\n

Feldman, father to a 4-year-old son and 2-year-old daughter, said he\u2019s glad he was able to star in a show that his children can watch before they\u2019re teenagers.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI showed them the trailer to see what their reaction was. And my youngest \u2014 my daughter \u2014 just goes \u2018Daddy purple!\u2019 But she doesn\u2019t seem that impressed. My son is convinced that he was already aware of this show and has already seen it and it\u2019s not a big deal that I\u2019m one of the voices. So, we\u2019ll see how they react when it comes out. Whatever it is, it will be the opposite of what I expect.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
