A <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/bitcoin.org\/en\/download\">notice<\/a> on the website reads: \u201cThis software is presently not available for download in the UK, and download links will not work if you are located within the United Kingdom.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, attempting to proceed with downloading the Bitcoin (BTC) software from the site using a U.K. IP returns a \u201c404 error.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Detailing the reason for blocking access to the software download for U.K. site visitors, Bitcoin.org\u2019s pseudonymous owner C\u00f8bra responded to a tweet <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CobraBitcoin\/status\/1410889281904709634\">stating<\/a>: <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe white paper is in the blockchain and can be retrieved through the software. I\u2019m not allowed to distribute the whitepaper on bitcoin.org, or \u2018in any other way.\u2019 We have to follow the law.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The whitepaper is in the blockchain and can be retrieved through the software. I&#8217;m not allowed to distribute the whitepaper on <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/1dtx7wYjP2\">https:\/\/t.co\/1dtx7wYjP2<\/a>, or &#8220;in any other way&#8221;. We have to follow the law.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 C\u00f8bra (@CobraBitcoin) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CobraBitcoin\/status\/1410889281904709634?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 2, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>As previously reported by Cointelegraph, a U.K. court ruled in favor of self-proclaimed Bitcoin creator Craig Wright in a copyright infringement case against C\u00f8bra and Bitcoin.org for hosting the Bitcoin white paper.<\/p>\n<p>However, the default judgment was only because C\u00f8bra elected not to mount a defense. As part of the ruling, C\u00f8bra was also instructed to cover Wright\u2019s legal fees to the tune of 35,000 British pounds (about $48,600).<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Related: <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>Craig Wright wins default judgment, Bitcoin.org must remove Bitcoin white paper<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The judgment is the latest salvo in Wright\u2019s assault on people who dispute his claim of being Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto. In January, Wright demanded that Bitcoin.org, Bitcoin.com, and Bitcoincore.org remove copies of the Bitcoin white paper from their respective websites.<\/p>\n<p>Wright continues to maintain that Bitcoin white paper is his intellectual property. Meanwhile, he continues to be a proponent of Bitcoin SV (BSV), a factional chain that split off from Bitcoin Cash (BCH) which is itself another forked chain from Bitcoin.<\/p>\n<p>The Bitcoin software download is still available on Bitcoincore.org, even for visitors with U.K. IP addresses as of the time of writing. <\/p>\n<p>Indeed, geofencing the download link on Bitcoin.org is not likely to impact people interested in running Bitcoin Core in the country, given the multitude of workarounds like virtual private networks and other websites that host the software.<\/p>\n<p><template data-name=\"subscription_form\" data-type=\"markets_outlook\"><\/template><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
