“#Cop group asks de Blasio to paint \u2018Blue Lives Matter\u2019 street mural<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

\n The cop-boosting \u201cBlue Lives Matter\u201d NYC is asking Mayor Bill de Blasio to paint a mural outside NYPD\u2019s headquarters to remind cops every time they suit up they still matter to the city of Gotham.<\/p>\n

Inspired by the \u201cBlack Lives Matter\u201d mural that was painted on 5th Avenue last week, the pro-cop group believes the display would help raise awareness for what police face on the street each day.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn a daily basis, police officers are verbally and physically abused,\u201d the group\u2019s founder Sgt. Joe Imperatrice told The Post, adding, \u201cthis is absolutely about working together and not a push back.\u201d<\/p>\n

Imperatrice penned the letter, along with \u201cStanding up For NYC,\u201d to the mayor on Wednesday requesting the mural be painted on Madison Street near Pearl Street or on Broadway near W. 45th Street if the first option near 1 Police Plaza is not available.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis could be a way to come together and do something positive instead of just seeing the violence and the negativity that comes with the counter-protests,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The pro-cop group came together in 2014 as a response to the \u201cBlack Lives Matter\u201d movement and is identified with the \u201cthin blue line\u201d flag, which has been met with blowback in the US leading to departments to ban the symbol on the job.<\/p>\n

Imperatrice actually app<\/a>lauded the mayor for the public support of the \u201cBlack Lives Matter\u201d movement, admitting that he is likely part of a small population among the police force.<\/p>\n

He said he believes the sign of support opens the door to a number of groups to help raise awareness for their issues to get people talking to each other.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think that if we can open up a dialogue and try to understand one another and be able to put this out there\u2026 we should start raising awareness for officers\u2019 lives and the fact that officers come from all different backgrounds, you can\u2019t just paint us a broad brush,\u201d Imperatrice said.<\/p>\n
