“#\u2018Lovecraft Country\u2019 will not return for Season 2 on HBO<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

Fans love \u201cLovecraft Country,\u201d one of the most popular shows of 2020, starring Jurnee Smollett and Jonathan Majors, but it\u2019s not getting love from HBO.<\/p>\n

The network confirmed to Deadline<\/a> that the show, despite the 10-episode season\u2019s popularity, will not be getting a Season 2.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will not be moving forward with a second season of Lovecraft Country,\u201d HBO said in a statement. \u201cWe are grateful for the dedication and artistry of the gifted cast and crew, and to Misha Green, who crafted this groundbreaking series<\/a>. And to the fans, thank you for joining us on this journey.\u201d<\/p>\n

The show was created and executive produced by showrunner Green and produced by J.J. Abrams\u2019 Bad Robot and Jordan Peele\u2019s Monkeypaw Productions. Majors starred as Atticus Freeman, who travel<\/a>s through 1950s Jim Crow America on a quest for his missing father with pal Letitia (Smollett).<\/p>\n

As Deadline pointed out, the Season 1 finale of \u201cLovecraft Country\u201d reached 1.5 million viewers, which marked HBO Max\u2019s most-watched new episode of an original series. By October, the premiere episode hit 10 million viewers.<\/p>\n

Season 1 had Matt Ruff\u2019s book as source material, but Deadline reported that the decision to end the show was, at least in part, based on the fact that there wasn\u2019t a roadmap \u2014 though Green shared Season 2 plot ideas with the outlet in October<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI envision a second season that carries on the spirit of Matt Ruff\u2019s novel by continuing to reclaim the genre storytelling space that people of color have typically been left out of,\u201d Green said.<\/p>\n

\u201cLovecraft Country\u201d scored a Golden Globes nomination for Best TV Series, Drama, but ultimately lost to \u201cThe Crown.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
