“#Biden doesn’t think Sha’Carri Richardson should be reinstated to Olympic team<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

President Joe Biden said Saturday he is \u201cproud\u201d of sprinter Sha\u2019Carri Richardson \u2014 but doesn\u2019t think she should be reinstated to the US Olympic track team after being bounced for pot use. <\/p>\n

\u201cWell, the rules are the rules,\u201d Biden told reporters Saturday as he shopped at a farm stand in Central Lake, Mich. \u201cBut I was really proud of the way she responded.\u201d<\/p>\n

Richardson, 21, won the 100-meter dash in 10.86 seconds at the U.S. Olympic trials on June 19 \u2014 but later tested positive for THC, the chemical in marijuana.<\/p>\n

The test results meant a 30-day suspension from competition. Weed is considered a banned substance by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and USA Track and Field.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to take responsibility for my actions,\u201d Richardson told NBC News<\/a> Friday. \u201cI\u2019m not looking for an excuse.\u201d<\/p>\n

Biden\u2019s reaction to Richardson\u2019s punishment puts him at odds with many of his fellow Democrats \u2014 including far left Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), who blasted the International Olympic Committee\u2019s anti-weed stance as \u201can instrument of racist and colonial policy\u201d and demanded Richardson\u2019s return to the team.<\/p>\n

Biden\u2019s comment came one day after Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida attacked the president for his silence on the Richardson matter.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe press who love to bathe in the intersectionality of race-gender-sports should ask @JoeBiden if he believes Sha\u2019carri Richardson should be barred from representing America for using a drug legal in most states that doesn\u2019t impact performance,\u201d Gaetz tweeted Friday<\/a>. <\/p>\n
