Weekend trade volumes remained characteristically low at just over $18 billion. <\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2021-07\/97b43e89-5d06-43f7-b9c6-28aa54eaa0cc.png\"><figcaption style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Ether&#8217;s price sees renewed upside on Sunday. Source: Cointelegraph Markets Pro<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>At current values, Ether has a total market capitalization of $274.8 billion. <\/p>\n<p>The DeFi market, which is largely built on top of Ethereum, saw cumulative gains of 9% on Sunday. The total market value of DeFi coins is $67.3 billion, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.coingecko.com\/en\/categories\">according<\/a> to Coingecko data. <\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Bitcoin\u2019s price crossed $35,600, having gained 2.6%. <\/p>\n<p>The battle between the bulls and the bears was on display in the options market last month, with both camps expecting extreme price fluctuations for Ether leading into the options expiry on Friday. As Cointelegraph reported, the $2,200 price level is where the bulls start to increase their lead, as evidenced by the ratio of call options to put options. <\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"London_hard_fork_looms\"><\/span>London hard fork looms<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Ethereum\u2019s London hard fork, which contains the highly anticipated EIP 1559, launched on the Ropsten testnet on June 24, setting the stage for full mainnet implementation <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/money.yahoo.com\/eip-1559-nears-ethereum-upgrade-070058011.html#:~:text=The%20long%2Dawaited%20Ethereum%20London,its%20full%20deployment%20next%20month.&amp;text=Following%20that%2C%20it%20will%20be,mainnet%20later%20in%20the%20month.\">later<\/a> in July.<\/p>\n<p>The hard fork is anticipated to have a positive impact on Ether\u2019s value thanks to several proposal upgrades, including the transition to the eco-friendly proof-of-stake consensus and a new \u201cscarcity\u201d feature that will reduce the number of tokens in circulation. <\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Related: <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>A London tour guide: What the EIP-1559 hard fork promises for Ethereum<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Analysts expect investors to increase their exposure to ETH leading into the hard fork.
