An emotional 88-year-old survivor of the deadly Florida building collapse thanked the man who carried her to safety in a tearful reunion last week.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe just picked me up,\u201d Esther Gorfinkle recalled as she met savior Alfredo Lopez on Friday for the first time since the June 24 tragedy, according to CNN<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m so happ<\/a>y,\u201d Gorfinkle told Lopez through tears. \u201cUp there, somebody\u2019s watching.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gorfinkle had been asleep in her fifth-floor unit at Champlain Towers South Condo in Surfside that fated Thursday morning when \u201call of a sudden, I hear, \u2018Boom!\u2019 and my apartment is shaking,\u201d she told the network.<\/p>\n

Lopez, a sixth-floor resident who was fleeing with his family, saw his elderly neighbor struggling to get down the stairs to safety.<\/p>\n

\u201cI remember Esther told me that her knee was bothering her and she wanted to stop,\u201d he said. \u201cI told her stopping is not an option.\u201d<\/p>\n

So he picked her up and carried her down the stairs.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know how many flights of stairs,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

But they weren\u2019t out of the woods yet \u2014 they hit an obstacle in the flooded garage.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was one car that was pancaked on top of another car that was pancaked on top of a huge slab of concrete,\u201d Lopez said. \u201cWe gave her like the old one-two. We pushed her up and we got out of the garage.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gorfinkle, Lopez, and his family eventually made it out of the complex to safety.<\/p>\n

\u201cEsther, it just wasn\u2019t our time, you know?\u201d Lopez told Gorfinkle at their reunion.<\/p>\n

The grandma replied, \u201cI know I\u2019m lucky.<\/p>\n

\u201cVery lucky to be here with my family, thank God,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Officials said 24 people have been confirmed dead in the tragic collapse, with 121 still missing.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
