“#NPR criticizes Declaration of Independence<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

NPR is facing a wave of backlash after criticizing the Declaration of Independence on the Fourth of July \u2014 saying the document has \u201cflaws and deeply ingrained hypocrisies,\u201d adding, in the context of current\u00a0racial conversations in\u00a0America, \u201cthe words in the document land differently.\u201d<\/p>\n

The tax-payer funded outlet, which did not immedia<\/a>tely respond to The Post\u2019s request for comment, publishes and reads one of the nation\u2019s founding documents every Independence Day Weekend.<\/p>\n

This year, however, NPR warned that it included a racial slur against Indigenous people and called it \u201ca document with flaws and deeply ingrained hypocrisies.\u201d<\/p>\n

NPR made the statements in their post for this year\u2019s reading on their website<\/a>, as well as on Twitter<\/a>.<\/p>\n

At the top of the article, the outlet explains that while they have maintained this tradition of reading the declaration, \u201cafter last summer\u2019s protests and our national reckoning on race, the words in the document land differently.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt famously declares \u2018that all men are created equal\u2019 even though women, enslaved people and Indigenous Americans were not held as equal at the time,\u201d the outlet continued.<\/p>\n

On Twitter Sunday, NPR wrote, \u201c245 years ago today, leaders representing 13 British colonies signed a document to declare independence,\u201d before repeating the same statement about different Americans not being seen as equal.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat then follows is a long list of grievances and charges against King George III that outline the 13 North American British Colonies\u2019 intentions to separate from Great Britain,\u201d the article continued.<\/p>\n

The outlet then addressed how Congress edited Thomas Jefferson\u2019s document to remove criticism of slavery. <\/p>\n

Additionally, the outlet noted, \u201ca racist slur about Native Americans stayed in.\u201d<\/p>\n

Netizens quickly took note of the public outlet\u2019s woke messaging, with \u201cDefund NPR\u201d beginning\u00a0to trend on Twitter. <\/p>\n

One user wrote, \u201cThe biggest flaw with the Declaration of Independence is that it didn\u2019t call for abolishing NPR.\u201d\u00a0 <\/p>\n

Another noted, \u201cA taxpayer funded news<\/a> organization attacking the Declaration of Independence on Independence Day.\u201d <\/p>\n

Another user replied, \u201cyou people are insufferable.\u201d<\/p>\n

Conservative media watchdog \u201cNewsBusters\u201d commented, \u201cIf you object to this spin, you\u2019re \u2018launching a culture war,\u2019 not NPR.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNothing like state funded anti American propaganda,\u201d one user quipped.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
