Mets great and SNY broadcaster Keith Hernandez had to go to the emergency room to get eight stitches in his big toe after falling off the edge of his hot tub while doing yard work at his Sag Harbor home, Gary Cohen revealed during Monday\u2019s Mets-Brewers broadcast.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe way I understand it is, [Hernandez] was standing on the edge of his hot tub with pruning shears, pruning his roses, and he might\u2019ve taken a bit of a tumble, grabbed for something on his way down that did not support him, and took a rather hard fall,\u201d Cohen said. \u201cI am told that there was a trip<\/a> to the emergency room and there were eight stitches in his big toe. So I don\u2019t know if he\u2019s gonna be in a wheelchair or if he\u2019s gonna be on crutches.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cohen indicated Hernandez would be back in the booth on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Keith had a slip that needed stitches on his big toe, and he wanted to make sure when Gary & Ron told the story, it wouldn’t be all about him \ud83d\ude02<\/p>\n

SNY worked up a cartoon of Hernandez in a hospital bed with his foot wrapp<\/a>ed up and Mr. and Mrs. Met standing at his bedside. A photo of Hernandez on \u201cSeinfeld\u201d hung over the bed. <\/p>\n

Given that Hernandez\u2019s injuries weren\u2019t more serious, Cohen and Ron Darling were able to have a laugh after Cohen asked SNY Mets producer Gregg Picker whether Hernandez wanted his broadcast colleagues to tell the story of his fall on the air.<\/p>\n

\u201cGregg said, \u2018Well, what Keith said was, that if the guys want to talk about it, it\u2019s OK,\u2019 \u201d Cohen said. \u201cThe kicker was when Keith said, \u2018You know, I\u2019m not sure I want them to talk about it because I don\u2019t always want it to be about me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cCome on,\u201d Ron Darling replied. \u201cThat\u2019s hilarious.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIf there was ever a more un-self-aware quote \u2014 Keith, it\u2019s always about you! And we like it that way,\u201d Cohen added.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
