But the clues are there.<\/p>\n<p>MindGeek\u00a0has <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.jonronson.com\/butterfly.html\">controversially<\/a> become the largest\u00a0pornography business in the world. It both owns adult video platforms \u2014 such as\u00a0Pornhub, RedTube, and YouPorn \u2014 and production companies, like Brazzers\u00a0Digital Playground, and Reality Kings.<\/p>\n<p>Over the past several years, MindGeek has been embroiled in a <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a> of lawsuits. A large number of these concentrate on the fact that MindGeek\u2018s sites host illegal content. This includes, but is not limited to, rape, child sexual abuse, and revenge porn.<\/p>\n<p>The most recent case <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vice.com\/en\/article\/3anvw8\/40-girls-do-porn-victims-suing-pornhub-mindgeek\">is from June this year<\/a> \u2014but lawsuits in this vein are\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vice.com\/en\/article\/3anvw8\/40-girls-do-porn-victims-suing-pornhub-mindgeek\">far from a new trend<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s impossible to look at the closure of XTube without coming to the conclusion that this sort of legal action is why the\u00a0pornography site shuttering.<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s particularly interesting is how quiet XTube is being about this. We were first alerted to the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> via this tweet from <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/justicedefensefund.org\/\">anti-trafficking and sexual abuse\u00a0activist<\/a>, Laila Mickelwait:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">BREAKING: Major MindGeek porn tube site Xtube is SHUTTING DOWN September 5.<\/p>\n<p>Lesson: If you can\u2019t operate legally, you can\u2019t XTube is shutting down in that statement.\u00a0I also searched across XTube\u2018s site and there is currently no announcement on its blog page. <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/xtube\/\">Its Twitter<\/a> is also strangely silent on the matter.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, all the closure information is tucked away on <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" it\u2019s hosting illegal content and would rather quietly close it, rather than suffer another lawsuit.<\/p>\n<p>We have contacted XTube for more information about its decision to close, and will update this article if we receive a response.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"XTube_and_the_modern_state_of_online_pornography\"><\/span>XTube and the modern state of online pornography<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>XTube was founded in 2006 and was one of the first porn sites that allowed users to upload their own videos. In other words, there\u2019s bound to be a raft of illegal content sitting on the site.<\/p>\n<p>The world of online pornography needs regulation, and more measures to protect vulnerable people from abuse. The closure of XTube is a sign things are moving in the right direction.<\/p>\n<p>As documented in <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.jonronson.com\/butterfly.html\">Jon Ronson\u2019s <em>The Butterfly Effect<\/em><\/a>, the current \u201ctube\u201d style of porn got its start from illegally sharing copyrighted material. When the businesses it took content from started to struggle, MindGeek then purchased them at severely reduced prices.<\/p>\n<p>This all led to the consolidated online porn market we see today.<\/p>\n<p>Even worse than this though are the women (because it\u2019s mainly women) who have suffered abuse and had their lives ruined when videos of them are uploaded illegally on adult tube sites.<\/p>\n<p>Steps have been taken against this, for example, Pornhub <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vice.com\/en\/article\/jgqjjy\/pornhub-suspended-all-unverified-videos-content\">removed all unverified content<\/a>\u00a0after Visa and Mastercard blocked payments to the platform \u2014 but this isn\u2019t enough.<\/p>\n<p>Pornography sites must be responsible for the content they host.
