It expects the contract to last up to five years, including a three-year performance base period and two one-year option periods.<\/p>\n<p>The department said it will solicit proposals from both Amazon and Microsoft for the contract, adding that it believes they are the only cloud service providers that can meet its needs. But it did leave the door open to other bidders.<\/p>\n<p>The department originally awarded the controversial contract to Microsoft in October 2019.
