And in the last two months, the streaming giant also axed freshman <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a> <em>The Irregulars<\/em>, <em>Jupiter\u2019s Legacy<\/em>, <em>Grand Army<\/em> and <em>Dad Stop Embarrassing Me<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The Netflix turnover has some viewers <em>streaming<\/em> mad. \u201cMan, Netflix makes these great shows and cancels them after one season,\u201d one <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CbazOfficial\/status\/1313262559688945665\">tweeted<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s absolutely annoying.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter<\/a> user <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/cIytaemnestra\/status\/1405673967730532353\">wrote<\/a>, \u201cNetflix needs to stop making shows that it never promotes and then cancels after one season because it got no exposure\u2026 Getting me emotionally invested in canceled shows and for <em>what<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Powers That Be at Netflix are aware of the criticism. Speaking at last November\u2019s Paley International Council Summit with Netflix global TV head Bela Bajaria, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos hit back at claims that the streamer is disproportionately cancel-h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>y. Per <em><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2020\/11\/netflix-bela-bajaria-cancellations-ted-sarandos-67-percent-1234613085\/\">Deadline<\/a><\/em>, Sarandos countered that it\u2019s disproportionately big <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> when Netflix gives a show the heave-ho.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_974288\" style=\"width: 2570px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-974288\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-974288 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Mr.-Iglesias-on-Netflix-scaled-e1606883628698.jpg\" alt=\"Mr. Iglesias on Netflix\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1491\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Mr.-Iglesias-on-Netflix-scaled-e1606883628698.jpg 2560w, https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Mr.-Iglesias-on-Netflix-scaled-e1606883628698-450x262.jpg 450w, https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Mr.-Iglesias-on-Netflix-scaled-e1606883628698-979x570.jpg 979w, https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Mr.-Iglesias-on-Netflix-scaled-e1606883628698-768x447.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Mr.-Iglesias-on-Netflix-scaled-e1606883628698-2048x1193.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Mr.-Iglesias-on-Netflix-scaled-e1606883628698-570x332.jpg 570w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2560px) 100vw, 2560px\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-974288\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">\u2018Mr. Iglesias\u2019 (Adam Rose\/Netflix)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>And Bajaria argued that Netflix\u2019s renew-cancel ratio is similar to those of the company\u2019s competitors. \u201cIf you look at [second seasons] and more, we actually have a renewal rate of 67 percent, which is industry standard,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, that renewal rate is probably better than broadcast networks can boast: <em><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-news\/cancel-rate-rookie-shows-hits-10-year-low-2018-19-1211843\/\">The Hollywood Reporter<\/a><\/em> research showed a 58.2 percent failure rate for the broadcast networks\u2019 new scripted shows from the 10 television seasons between 2009 and 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Bajaria also contended that for all the Netflix cancellations that make the news, there are way more renewals that go underreported: \u201cWe also do make a large amount of first season shows, which sometimes feels that we have more first-season cancellations, but if you look at the renewal rate, it\u2019s really strong. \u2026 We\u2019re always going to have a mix [of shows] that are great to be told in a limited series form and shows that go on for multiple seasons.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Plus, as Bajaria explained, other platforms and networks order pilot episodes of their shows\u2014and then cancel many of the projects at the pilot stage, before those stories even reach viewers\u2019 TV sets. \u201cWe order straight to series in the first [place], rather than make pilots, which results sometimes in more Season 1 cancellations,\u201d she said. \u201cEven with that, I still believe a season order is still a better creative expression of a writer\u2019s idea, so I still think that\u2019s the right model for us.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_771335\" style=\"width: 1290px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-771335\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-771335 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Bonding_S01E04_1m4s1549f_R.jpg\" alt=\"Bonding_S01E04_1m4s1549f_R\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Bonding_S01E04_1m4s1549f_R.jpg 1280w, https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Bonding_S01E04_1m4s1549f_R-304x171.jpg 304w, https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Bonding_S01E04_1m4s1549f_R-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Bonding_S01E04_1m4s1549f_R-1014x570.jpg 1014w, https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Bonding_S01E04_1m4s1549f_R-385x217.jpg 385w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-771335\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">\u2018Bonding\u2019 (Netflix)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>For his part, Sarandos argued that we could redefine television success and move away from the 100-episode benchmark\u2014which historically has been the threshold for a TV series to be sold for syndication. \u201cThat was the goal, and anything that didn\u2019t get to 100 episodes or past the four seasons didn\u2019t feel like a success. Whereas I think many shows can be a success for being exactly what they are, and you could tell that story in two seasons or one season or five seasons,\u201d he reflected. \u201cI think it gets talked about so much because it\u2019s measured against the old way of doing things.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That said, the Netflix shows that are lucky enough to earn a second season are often not so lucky as to earn a third season. (<em><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/heres-why-netflix-cancels-shows-so-quickly-now\">IGN<\/a><\/em> recently quipped that with Netflix Originals, \u201cit\u2019s either one-and-done or two-and-shoo.\u201d) <em><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.co.uk\/article\/netflix-originals-cancelled-oa-altered-carbon-sense8\">Wired UK<\/a><\/em> recent did a deep dive into the trend of Season 2 cancellations, after shows like <em>Altered Carbon<\/em>, <em>Sense8<\/em>, <em>The OA<\/em> and <em>Luke Cage<\/em> suffered that fate. But the company\u2019s business-minded calculations might also be short-sighted, especially when you consider all the TV shows that started slow but gained audiences and acclaim as they progressed.
