SEATTLE \u2014 The regular season is barely half over, but the Yankees\u2019 future could be decided in the coming weeks, as the organization decides whether to stay all-in or to sell at the trade deadline.<\/p>\n

Aaron Boone is aware of the stakes.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe understand the importance of these game<\/a>s and the hole we dug ourselves in the first half of the season,\u2019\u2019 Boone said before the Yankees opened a series<\/a> against the Mariners. \u201cIt\u2019s a very important week for us and hopefully we get it off on a good note.\u201d<\/p>\n

A 12-1 win will suffice, though it came with another concerning outing from Aroldis Chapman, who loaded the bases in the ninth.<\/p>\n

The Yankees pounded the Mariners from the jump, as Giancarlo Stanton crushed a three-run homer with one out in the first and they added three more runs in the second off former Yankee Justus Sheffield, who lasted just 1 \u00b2\/\u2083 innings.<\/p>\n

The Yankees scored twice more in the third in support of Jameson Taillon.<\/p>\n

Rougned Odor\u2019s three-run shot in the eighth off former Mets prospect Rafael Montero gave the Yankees\u2019 a season-high in both runs and hits and Luke Voit added a career-best five hits.<\/p>\n

It was at least a temporary respite from their recent woes, which included three losses in their previous four games that dropped the Yankees to just a game over .500.<\/p>\n

Stanton opened the scoring with his 15th homer.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt would be a good push for us if we play this week out well and definitely hit the reset button at the break,\u2019\u2019 Stanton said. \u201cWe know what we need to do.\u201d<\/p>\n

Though general<\/a> manager Brian Cashman and managing general partner Hal Steinbrenner both said last week the team was in buy mode as the July 30 non-waiver trade deadline app<\/a>roached, Cashman acknowledged that perspective could change \u201cif we fall like a stone.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tuesday\u2019s victory left the Yankees 9 \u00bd games back of first-place Boston.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis team has what it takes,\u2019\u2019 Voit said. \u201cThe division is pretty far [out], but we still have 80 games to play if we get hot.\u201d<\/p>\n

They have two more games against Seattle at T-Mobile Park before closing out the first half with three games in Houston, facing the first-place Astros.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m sure it all matters,\u2019\u2019 Boone said of the team\u2019s performance as the deadline nears. \u201cOur focus is on [the games]. That\u2019s more for the front office to focus on what moves to make, to not make.\u201d<\/p>\n

And one victory doesn\u2019t mean a turnaround is on the horizon, particularly coming off a 2-7 stretch that included a three-game sweep in Boston and losing two of three to the Mets in The Bronx.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve still got to right our ship and play our game and play to our capabilities,\u2019\u2019 Boone said. \u201cI hope we\u2019re in a position to do something to help us out, but we\u2019ve got to earn that and play well.\u201d<\/p>\n
