“#Black Oklahoma pastor claims white anti-mask protesters assaulted him<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

\n A black Oklahoma pastor said a group of anti-face mask protesters \u2014 most of them white \u2014 assaulted him as he peacefully called for reparations for the victims of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre this week.<\/p>\n

The trouble started when the Rev. Robert Turner, the pastor of Historic Vernon Chapel A.M.E. Church, app<\/a>roached Tulsa City Hall, where a group of protesters had congregated, video posted to his YouTube<\/a> account shows.<\/p>\n

As Turner started to speak on a megaphone, a woman approached and appeared to say something to him, but he continued his speech.<\/p>\n

Then, the protesters erupted into cheers of, \u201cUSA! USA!\u201d to drown him out.<\/p>\n

\u201cHey sweetie, let us have our voice,\u201d said one woman, who touched his arm before putting her hand over the megaphone to block the sound.<\/p>\n

A man stood in front of him asking, \u201cHow much do you need?\u201d while waving dollar bills around and trying to hand them to him.<\/p>\n

Another man showed him a credit card and asked, \u201cDo you take credit cards for reparations?\u201d<\/p>\n

Yet another protester is shown putting an open umbrella in the pastor\u2019s face to block any view of him.<\/p>\n

One protester held a sign with the large message \u201cI CAN\u2019T BREATHE,\u201d above the smaller words, \u201cwith a mask.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t breathe\u201d was the final statement uttered by George Floyd and Eric Garner, two unarmed black men killed by police whose deaths have inspired ongoing protests.<\/p>\n

Other signs said, \u201cFire Fauci,\u201d \u201cMy rights don\u2019t end where your fear begins\u201d and \u201cMasks are a symbol of the false security we hide behind when we let the media and politicians dictate our medical freedom!\u201d<\/p>\n

In a statement obtained by The Tulsa World, Turner said he \u201cfelt emotions that were unlike anything I have ever known\u201d when he approached the protest.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy very presence was the catalyst for an onslaught of anger and hate from my fellow children of God,\u201d Turner said. \u201cI now have a deeper sympathy for civil rights activists like Vivian Malone, James Meredith, The Little Rock Nine, and countless others.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cToday, people shouted \u2018USA\u2019 at us as though it was an attack \u2014 as though the United States was no place for Black men seeking justice,\u201d the pastor added. \u201cIt is a sad day in Tulsa, but I will not be deterred in this fight. By God as my helper, I will endure this fiery furnace, and we as a people will make it to the promised land. Our people will know justice.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said that he plans to press for assault charges, but the outlet could not immediately confirm whether a police report was filed.<\/p>\n

A Tulsa Police Department dispatcher told the paper a complaint was made around that time about someone disrupting a protest. Officers showed up, but left within a few minutes, according to the dispatcher.<\/p>\n

Debbie Robertson, an administrator for the Facebook group \u201cTulsa Citizens Against Mask Mandates,\u201d told the outlet in a message that \u201c[Turner) turned his megaphone to full blast and verbally assaulted all of us.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe said all whites are racist and must pay him reparations,\u201d she said. \u201cHe was so loud we could not hear our people speaking on our small sound system.\u201d<\/p>\n
