While no official Apple solution exists, there are free third-party apps on the App Store that you can use instead.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"First_Install_iPhone_App_Companion_Server\"><\/span>First, Install iPhone App &amp; Companion Server<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>There are a huge number of mouse and keyboard apps on the App Store, and the vast majority of them will probably get the job done. For this walkthrough, we chose <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/apps.apple.com\/us\/app\/remote-mouse\/id385894596\">Remote Mouse<\/a> by Yao Ruan because it\u2019s free (supported by advertisements), works as both a keyboard and a mouse, and is compatible with macOS, Windows, and Linux.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-734795\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Screen-Shot-2021-06-16-at-15.18.11.png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"Mac App Store Remote Mouse\" width=\"650\" height=\"346\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>First, download <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/apps.apple.com\/us\/app\/remote-mouse\/id385894596\">Remote Mouse<\/a> for your iPhone or iPad. Now, head to the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.remotemouse.net\">Remote Mouse homepage<\/a> and download the server. Make sure that you download the right server for your operating system. If you\u2019re a Mac user, you can grab it from the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/apps.apple.com\/app\/remote-mouse\/id403195710?mt=12\">Mac App Store<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>With the app and companion server installed, it\u2019s time to set everything up to work wirelessly over Wi-Fi.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Setting_Up_Your_Wireless_Mouse_and_Keyboard\"><\/span>Setting Up Your Wireless Mouse and Keyboard<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>For this to work, your iPhone or iPad will need to be on the same wireless network as the computer that you\u2019re trying to control.<\/p>\n<p>First, launch the server on your computer. Next, launch the mobile app on your iPhone or iPad and grant access to the local network and Bluetooth. You should be prompted to connect to a server, but if you\u2019re not, tap on the \u201cNot connected\u201d bar at the top of the screen.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-734796\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/IMG_5018.jpg?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"Connect to Remote Mouse Server\" width=\"650\" height=\"320\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>You should see the name of your computer appear in the list. Tap on it to establish a connection.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re using a Mac, you\u2019ll be prompted to grant Remote Mouse the access that it needs to control your computer. To do this, first, launch System Preferences &gt; Security &amp; Privacy, and then on the \u201cPrivacy\u201d tab, select \u201cAccessibility\u201d from the list on the left.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-734798\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Screen-Shot-2021-06-16-at-15.05.40.png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"Enable Accessibility Privilege for Remote Mouse Server\" width=\"650\" height=\"557\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Click on the padlock in the bottom-left corner of your screen and enter your admin password. You can now check the box next to \u201cRemote Mouse\u201d in the right-hand pane and allow it to control your computer.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"All_Done\"><\/span>All Done!<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Dismiss any remaining notices on the screen, and then pick up your iPhone and iPad. You might need to dismiss some onscreen tips with a swipe, after which you should be able to use your iPhone to fully control your computer.<\/p>\n<p>In our testing, lag was imperceptible in the same room as our MacBook Pro and wireless router. You can tap on the keyboard button in the bar that runs along the bottom of the app to bring up a keyboard and type as you normally would.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-734797\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/IMG_5019.jpg?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"Remote Mouse Keyboard\" width=\"650\" height=\"260\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Use the \u201cFn\u201d and \u201cCtrl\u201d buttons to access key combinations that you don\u2019t have readily available on an iPhone or iPad keyboard. Notice that any text that you type appears in the middle of the touchpad briefly, so you don\u2019t have to constantly look up while typing at speed.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Use_Your_Android_Device_as_a_Mouse_and_Keyboard\"><\/span>Use Your Android Device as a Mouse and Keyboard<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Being limited to Wi-Fi is unfortunate, but you can always set up an ad-hoc local wireless network on your Mac and connect directly to it if you need mouse functionality but don\u2019t have access to local Wi-Fi.<\/p>\n<p>Got an Android device instead?
