{"id":293919,"date":"2021-07-08T16:13:39","date_gmt":"2021-07-08T13:13:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/pandemic-destroyed-22m-jobs-and-many-arent-coming-back\/"},"modified":"2021-07-08T16:13:39","modified_gmt":"2021-07-08T13:13:39","slug":"pandemic-destroyed-22m-jobs-and-many-arent-coming-back","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/pandemic-destroyed-22m-jobs-and-many-arent-coming-back\/","title":{"rendered":"#Pandemic destroyed 22M jobs and many aren\u2019t coming back"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#Pandemic destroyed 22M jobs and many aren\u2019t coming back<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Around 22 million jobs were lost in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic across the 37 member countries that are part of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, the group said in its annual employment outlook report.<\/p>\n<p>Of the 22 million jobs lost in 2020 across the OECD, 8 million are workers who are considered unemployed and 14 million are \u201cnot actively looking for a job.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMany of the jobs that have been lost during this pandemic crisis will not be recovered,\u201d Stephane Carcillo, head of the OECD\u2019s jobs and income division, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/oecdtv.webtv-solution.com\/8164\/en\/-Virtual-Press-Conference-OECD-Employment-Outlook-2021.html\">said <\/a>Wednesday at a virtual briefing on the data.<\/p>\n<p>The US, the UK, Japan, Mexico, Canada, Spain, Germany, and many more of the world\u2019s biggest economies are members of the OECD. Notably, India, Russia, and China are not members.<\/p>\n<p>The OECD noted that\u00a0job retention schemes rolled out during the height of the pandemic saved some 21 million jobs. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-style-default\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"708\" height=\"414\" alt=\"Graphic illustrating millions of jobs lost during the pandemic.\" class=\"wp-image-18754075 lazyload\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/07\/oecd-jobs-lost.png?w=300 300w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/07\/oecd-jobs-lost.png?w=640 640w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/07\/oecd-jobs-lost.png?w=708 708w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 708px\"\/><figcaption>Roughly 22 million jobs were lost due to the COVID-19 pandemic across the 37 member countries that are part of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>But, it warned, long-term unemployment rates could now become a reality in many of the organization\u2019s rich member states as low-skilled workers struggle to fill new job openings.<\/p>\n<p>In May, the unemployment rate among OECD countries fell to 6.6 percent, but remained 1.3 percent higher than pre-pandemic levels.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Carcillo noted that the US, with its rapid vaccine rollout, has mounted a stronger economic and labor market recovery than other OECD countries. Young people will also likely bear the brunt of the slow rebound, the OECD\u2019s report predicted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe scars could be felt for a long time for young people in terms of employment and wages,\u201d Stefano Scarpetta, director of employment, labor and <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social<\/a> affairs at the OECD, said at the briefing.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-style-default\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"718\" height=\"452\" alt=\"Graphic illustrating youth employment.\" class=\"wp-image-18754087 lazyload\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/07\/OECD-youth-graf.png?w=300 300w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/07\/OECD-youth-graf.png?w=640 640w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/07\/OECD-youth-graf.png?w=718 718w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 718px\"\/><figcaption>Young people will likely bear the brunt of the slow jobs rebound in a post-pandemic economy.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>OECD Secretary-<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">General<\/a> Mathias Cormann said governments should leave government support programs in place for the time being, but OECD officials added that leaving support in place for too long could carry risks, as well.<\/p>\n<p>Cormann also recommended governments prioritize training workers who lost jobs and ensuring that they have the skills necessary to find work in a post-pandemic labor market that could look fundamentally different from a couple of years ago.<\/p>\n<p>That echoes remarks made last week made by President Biden\u2019s Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo, who said many retail and service jobs might not be returning to the US.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd so, what that means is, we have to lean into <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>renticeships and job training and up-skilling,\u201d she said.\n            <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
