\n James Harden\u2019s choice of mask has come under heavy scrutiny.<\/p>\n

Upon his delayed arrival to the NBA\u2019s bubble in Orlando \u2014 he practiced with the team for the first time on Thursday \u2014 the Rockets posted a picture of the former MVP in a face covering, captioned \u201cMask Up.\u201d The NBA shared the post on its own Twitter<\/a> page.<\/p>\n

The mask featured an American flag with a thin blue line \u2013 often used as a pro-police symbol. Critics of the symbol have argued that it represents white supremacy and opposition to the Black Lives Matter movement.<\/p>\n

On top of the image, which is often used by the Blue Lives Matter movement, the mask pictured a Punisher skull, which has often been associated with far-right extremist groups. Adapted from the Marvel Comics character, Punisher\u2019s creator has asked police to stop using the logo, saying that the character \u201crepresents a failure of the justice system.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is certified clown s\u2013t,\u201d rapp<\/a>er Trey Songz tweeted. \u201cI\u2019ll say it for everybody who scared to. [F\u2013k outta here].\u201d<\/p>\n

Numerous players throughout the league have been vocal in their support of the Black Lives Matter movement, and the NBA agreed to paint \u201cBlack Lives Matter\u201d on the courts in Orlando. The league has also allowed players to replace their names with approved social justice messages on their jerseys. Harden told ESPN that he was not sure whether he would take up the offer.<\/p>\n

Harden did make a point to praise Houston\u2019s protests following the killing of George Floyd, however.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe way the city rallied, it was amazing,\u201d Harden told reporters on Thursday. \u201cI think the world saw it. How so many people could come together\u2026 Obviously it was for a tragic reason. The marching and everything we\u2019re standing for is very powerful.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rapper Young Thug, a close friend of Harden\u2019s, supported the eight-time All-Star, saying that he was likely ill-informed.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust so u know James Harden is my brada [sic],\u201d the rapper tweeted. \u201cBtw he don\u2019t have internet so he obviously don\u2019t know what\u2019s right or wrong if he posted something that\u2019s against US [sic].\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
