Hilaria Baldwin, outed late last year as neither Spanish nor interesting, has now doubled down on Instagram, claiming that she \u2014 as Walt Whitman and Bob Dylan before her \u2014 contains multitudes.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you are multi, it can feel hard to belong,\u201d she wrote in part. \u201cYou feel you have to explain why you are the way you are, trying to fit into a world of labels when there might not be one that perfectly defines you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Well, to be fair, there was one that perfectly defined Hilaria<\/a> for years: Spanish.<\/p>\n

Between compulsively pumping out babies, posing with said babies in creepy-sexy yoga selfies, dabbling in entertainment journalism and Hollywood-adjacent pursuits, walking endless red carpets despite zero interest in fame herself \u2014 \u00a1nada!<\/em> \u2014 being Spanish was all the one-time Hillary Lynn Hayward-Thomas, born and raised in Massachusetts, talked about.<\/p>\n

Lest we forget husband Alec\u2019s weird, self-congratulatory assertions that \u201cmy wife is from Spain\u201d \u2014 as he told David Letterman back in 2013.<\/p>\n

From a 2018 Hola! Magazine cover story: \u201cHilaria, who was born in Spain, has made certain to raise her children with her native language, Spanish.\u201d<\/p>\n

And, of course, her own personal Zapruder film, that great \u201cToday\u201d show segment in which she, no chef but teaching us all how to cook, another shifty and grifty claim \u2014 uttered this, in a Spanish accent:<\/p>\n

\u201cHow you say in Eng \u2014 cucumber?\u201d<\/p>\n

You can watch it on a loop<\/a>. It never gets old.<\/p>\n

Of course, Hillary isn\u2019t Spanish. She was born in Boston. She \u201cspent time\u201d in Spain as a child and her parents moved there when she was 19. Caught in the lie, she took her sob story to the New York Times<\/a>, which granted her a sympathetic platform to blame everyone and everything else for this giant misunderstanding, especially \u2014 who else? \u2014 Donald Trump.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe media<\/a> found its end-of-December fodder usually provided by an unusually restrained President Trump,\u201d said the Times, \u201cdelivering everything from a New York Post cover to a Washington Post explainer.\u201d<\/p>\n

So dour, so humorless, but that\u2019s the Times for you. It really was such a great cover. <\/p>\n

I mean, come on: What better celebrity scandal to close out our pandemic year? Were there two more smug, self-serving, hypocritical liberal elites in all of 2020? That tsunami of public mockery felt deserved \u2014 even though we really are in a post-shame era. Almost no one ever apologizes and means it.<\/p>\n

To wit: Hilaria just can\u2019t let it all die down, lest her fame, such as it is, disapp<\/a>ear.<\/p>\n

And so we have the Rachel Dolezal of the Hamptons doubling down online, lecturing us ignoramuses on concepts such as \u201cfluidity\u201d and \u201ccuration,\u201d invalidation and normalization and all the other junk jargon that permeates college campuses and the cringe-y online self-affirmations of the rampantly insecure.<\/p>\n

Hilaria writes that \u201cwe need to normalize the fact that we are all unique \u2014 our culture . . . [is] ALLOWED TO BE FLUID.\u201d<\/p>\n

Make no mistake: Hilaria is not only not sorry, but she equates her struggle here to that of civil rights and the LGBTQ+ community, castigating a society that does not allow those who are different or uncategorizable to belong.<\/p>\n

Oh, the lament of the Hollywood wife. This is some crazy rich white lady stuff that belongs on \u201cThe Real Housewives of New York City\u201d immediately.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt can feel hard to belong,\u201d Hilaria tells us, but \u201cyou don\u2019t need to explain or get into the uncomfortable \u2018prove it\u2019 situation . . . People will try to find reason [sic] to invalidate you . . . they can hate, poke fun & shame \u2014 because you asked for it through your audacity to be you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Exactamente.<\/em>\n <\/div>\n
