“#First 3 Minutes of Mamoru Hosoda’s Belle Released<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

The first three minutes of the upcoming Mamoru Hosoda film Belle<\/em> have been released on YouTube<\/a>. The video will be available for 48 hours from release.<\/span><\/p>\n

The upload of the film\u2019s opening minutes comes after the release of several brief<\/a> ads<\/a> on<\/a> July 8<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Belle, or\u00a0Ry\u016b to Sobakasu no Hime (<\/em>The Dragon and the Freckled Princess<\/em>) in Japanese, will premiere at the Cannes Premiere section of the 74th Cannes Festival, which runs from July 6 to July 17. The movie is set to\u00a0release in Japan on July 16, with an international release \u201ccoming soon.\u201d It was\u00a0announced in December 2020.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The movie\u2019s staff includes\u00a0Frozen<\/em>\u00a0character designer Jin Kim, British architect and designer Eric Wong, and Tomm Moore and Ross Stewart from Irish studio Cartoon Saloon, which produced the Oscar-nominated\u00a0Song of the Sea<\/em>,\u00a0The Secret of the Kells<\/em>, and\u00a0Wolfwalkers<\/em>. Studio Chizu is handling the animation production.<\/span><\/p>\n

Other staff include illustrator Kageichi Akiya as the designer of the dragon, Takaaki Yamashita (Mirai<\/em>\u00a0screen designer) as the CG animation director in regards to the virtual world of\u00a0\u201c<\/span>U,\u201d<\/span>\u00a0Hiroyuki Aoyama (Mirai<\/em>\u00a0animation director) as the character designer and the real world\u2019s animation director, Nobutaka Ike (Princess Principal<\/em>) as art director, Anri J\u014dj\u014d (Mirai<\/em>\u00a0production designer) as art designer, and Ry\u014d Horibe (Mirai<\/em>) and Digital Frontier\u2019s Yohei Shimozawa (Doraemon: Nobita\u2019s Treasure Island<\/em>) as CG directors.<\/span><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the cast includes Ry\u014d Narita as Shinobu Hisatake\/Shinobu-kun, Sh\u014dta Sometani as Shinjir\u014d Chikami\/Kamishin, Tina Tamashiro as Ruka Watanabe\/Ruka-chan, Rira Ikuta as Hiroka Betsuyaku\/Hiro-chan, Toshiyuki Morikawa as Justin, Kenjiro Tsuda as Jelinek, Mami Koyama as Swan, and Mamoru Miyano as Tar\u014d Hitokawamui and Maru Guttokorae.<\/span><\/p>\n

Other announced cast members include Ry\u014dko Moriyama as Yoshitani-san, Michiko Shimizu as Kita-san, Fuyumi Sakamoto as Okumoto-san, Yoshimi Iwasaki as Nakai-san, and Sachiyo Nakao as Hatanaka-san.<\/span><\/p>\n

Studio Chizu describes the story as:<\/span><\/p>\n

Our protagonist, Suzu, is a 17-year old high school girl, who lives in the countryside of Kochi Prefecture with her father, after losing her mother at a young age.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

She loves singing with her mother more than anything else, but as a result of her mother\u2019<\/span>s death was no longer able to sing.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

It wasn\u2019<\/span>t long before she and her father grew more and more distant from each other, and Suzu closed her heart to the rest of the world.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

When Suzu felt that writing music was her only purpose left in life, she then discovers the massive online space known as\u00a0\u201c<\/span>U,\u201d<\/span>\u00a0where she takes on her persona, Belle.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Another me.<\/em><\/span>
Another reality.<\/em><\/span>
We are no longer limited to a single world.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Suzu quickly realizes that when she is inside\u00a0\u201c<\/span>U\u201d<\/span>\u00a0as her avatar, Belle, she can sing quite naturally. As she continues to showcase her own music in the virtual world, she fast becomes the rising star of\u00a0\u201c<\/span>U.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Nonetheless, that surprise is short-lived. Suddenly, a mysterious dragon-shaped creature app<\/a>ears before her\u2026<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n
