Not content with record inflation sparked by his added trillions in spending and stubborn unemployment rolls thanks to his extended benefits, President Joe Biden has delivered more economic poison by issuing a sweeping executive order that claims to be \u201ca whole-of-government effort to promote competition in the American economy\u201d when it\u2019s really just more bad medicine for the private sector.<\/p>\n

His everything-but-the-kitchen-sink directive is simply a compendium of longtime Democratic dreams, banning<\/em> companies \u2014 and workers \u2014 from acting in ways that keep them competitive.<\/p>\n

The order includes 72 directives for more than a dozen federal agencies on everything from prescript<\/a>ion-drug prices to Internet services to chicken farming<\/em>. <\/p>\n

The White House claims<\/a> this \u201chistoric\u201d action will build on the \u201ceconomic momentum\u201d Biden\u2019s created to \u201clower prices for families, increase wages for workers, and promote innovation and even faster economic growth.\u201d <\/p>\n

Um: Prices are rising<\/em>, and fast \u2014 eating into whatever wage growth is coming as the economy bounces back from COVID. And this order could do serious damage to that recovery.<\/p>\n

One example of the fakery here: Biden says he\u2019ll ban or limit employers\u2019 use of non-compete agreements, which he says \u201care done for one reason: to keep wages low,\u201d citing how they keep McDonald\u2019s workers from accepting better-paid jobs at Burger King and asking, \u201cIs there a trade secret about what\u2019s in that patty?\u201d<\/p>\n

Reporters laughed but missed the big lie: Mickey D\u2019s has no such thing. After Biden said the same thing last year on the campaign trail, even the left-leaning PolitiFact noted<\/a> \u201chis tough words about the fast food giant got nearly every detail wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n

In fact, non-competes are typically something high-end <\/em>workers sign to increase<\/em> their salaries, offering employers security in exchange for more cash.<\/p>\n

More bull: Biden said he\u2019s ordered the Food and Drug Administration \u201cto help expedite imports of prescription drugs from Canada\u201d because \u201chigh prices are in part the result of lack of competition among drug manufacturers.\u201d<\/p>\n

No, drugs are cheaper in Canada because of price controls<\/em>. Americans pay more to subsidize the high cost of R&D that other countries shirk. The race to develop COVID vaccines in record time showed how competitive drugmakers really are.<\/p>\n

Other items on the long lefty wish list include promoting \u201cnet neutrality,\u201d directing the Justice Department and the Federal Trade Commission to \u201cchallenge prior bad mergers\u201d OK\u2019d by past administrations, forcing freight railroad-track owners to give rights of way to passenger rail and \u201cbanning excessive early termination fees\u201d by Internet providers.<\/p>\n

Most of it is bad ideas, and little of it has to do with boosting competition except according to lefty talking points. Is there anyone in this White House who has a clue how the private sector actually works?\n <\/p><\/div>\n
