In Windows 11, taskbar icons can include tiny red notification badges that show the number of unread messages in an app<\/a>. By default, this might be disabled. Here\u2019s how to turn icon notification badges on.<\/p>\n

First, open Windows Settings. You can use a link in the Quick Settings menu\u00a0or press Windows+i on your keyboard, or you might find it pinned to the Start menu.<\/p>\n

When Settings opens, select \u201cPersonalization\u201d in the sidebar, and then click \u201cTaskbar.\u201d<\/p>\n

In Taskbar settings, select \u201cTaskbar Behaviors.\u201d<\/p>\n

When the list of options appears, check the box next to \u201cShow badges (unread messages counter) on taskbar apps.\u201d<\/p>\n

After that, close the Settings menu. The next time you open a messaging or social media<\/a> app with unread messages or notifications, you\u2019ll see a red numbered badge right above its icon in the taskbar.<\/p>\n
