“#Will Mark Sheppard’s Sterling Be in the Revival?<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

With the first eight episodes of Leverage: Redemption<\/em>, out now on IMDb TV, we\u2019ve loved every single callback to the original series<\/a>. But we can\u2019t help but wonder about some missing familiar faces, especially<\/em> Mark Sheppard\u2019s<\/a> James Sterling.<\/p>\n

\u201cSterling does not join us in these 16 because his character was really tied to the Nate Ford [Timothy Hutton<\/a>] storyline,\u201d executive producer Dean Devlin tells TV Insider. So while there are some \u201cfun\u201d guest stars still ahead \u2014 the first half of the season included app<\/a>earances from French Stewart, Andrea Navedo, Dan Cortese, Kim Matula, and Joey Slotnick \u2014 \u201cit didn\u2019t really make sense to bring him back yet.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the original series, which aired five seasons on TNT from 2008 to 2012, Sterling worked for the same insurance firm as the late Nate Ford (the Mastermind) and later Interpol and was general<\/a>ly a thorn in the entire crew\u2019s side, even when he needed their help, like in \u201cThe Queen\u2019s Gambit Job.\u201d (If you enjoyed Christian Kane\u2019s<\/a> Eliot Spencer and Sterling\u2019s scenes together in that episode, you\u2019re not alone; Devlin did, too.)<\/p>\n

The good news<\/a> is that while we may not see Sterling in the eight episodes out now or the eight still to come in the fall, Devlin isn\u2019t looking at this as a one-season-and-done revival. \u201cThis is a show that we really only see ourselves doing maybe 25 more seasons, and then after that, we want to call it quits,\u201d the executive producer says. \u201cSo I guess that\u2019s my way of saying there are so many stories I want to tell in the Leverage<\/em> universe that I don\u2019t think we\u2019d ever run out.\u201d<\/p>\n

And who knows, maybe a return from Sterling could be in one of those stories. After all, Sterling was in the original run\u2019s series finale, which saw the crew successfully take the Black Book. (It\u2019s the record of those who got their money out when the financial system crashed, the \u201choly grail of the ones who got away with it,\u201d as Sterling called it.) And while it won\u2019t be part of these 16 episodes, \u201cit would definitely come up if we get more episodes,\u201d Devlin promises.<\/p>\n
