{"id":296084,"date":"2021-07-11T00:29:25","date_gmt":"2021-07-10T21:29:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/nyc-car-theft-numbers-going-down-a-bad-road\/"},"modified":"2021-07-11T00:29:25","modified_gmt":"2021-07-10T21:29:25","slug":"nyc-car-theft-numbers-going-down-a-bad-road","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/nyc-car-theft-numbers-going-down-a-bad-road\/","title":{"rendered":"#NYC car theft numbers going down a bad road"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#NYC car theft numbers going down a bad road<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Auto theft in New York City is going down a bad road.<\/p>\n<p>Car swipes have spiked 25 percent so far this year, with 4,473 thefts reported through July 4, compared to the same period in 2020 when there were 3,580, NYPD data show.<\/p>\n<p>Thieves are <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>arently having a heyday in The Bronx, where 1,294 vehicles have been boosted so far in 2021, compared to 843 in 2020, for a 54 percent surge. <\/p>\n<p>There were 1,262 vehicles lifted in Brooklyn this year compared to 1,123 in 2020, a 12 percent hike and 1,139 stolen in Queens in 2021 compared to 1,045 last year, a 9 percent uptick. <\/p>\n<p>In Manhattan, 684 cars were snatched, with the problem apparently concentrated in the Midtown North Precinct, which encompasses Midtown and includes blocks south of Central Park. That\u2019s where 426 vehicles have been snatched this year, as compared to 260 in 2020, a 64 percent surge. <\/p>\n<p>Looking for a sense of security? Park on Staten Island, where auto theft is down 14 percent this year \u2014 94 \u2014 compared to last year \u2014 109, the data show.<\/p>\n<p>On July 2, cops thwarted a crazed carjacker in Sunset Park, Brooklyn who\u00a0sped off with a 2-year-old\u00a0in the back. In the past, the department has blamed the\u00a0state\u2019s bail reform overhaul\u00a0and the coronavirus lockdown in part, for the surge \u2014 with car thieves emboldened as city residents weren\u2019t moving their vehicles as much. <\/p>\n<p>Thefts often occur when keys or key fobs are left in cars, or drivers leave their rides unattended with the motor running, the NYPD said. <\/p>\n<p>To that, 1,859 of this year\u2019s 4,473 reported thefts \u2014 42 percent \u2014 involved keys left inside a car, the department said. Another 985 \u2014 or 22 percent \u2014 were motorcycle\/scooter thefts.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, the department noted the NYPD was seeing a \u201cyounger demographic\u201d \u2014 more thieves under 18.
