That <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a>, based on Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi\u2019s film, imagines a comic universe in which ancient vampires make their way through humdrum lives s<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trip<\/a>ped of Transylvanian glamour in modern New York City. There\u2019s real comic potential, all taking place within a clearly defined reality.<\/p>\n<p>By contrast, \u201cWellington Paranormal,\u201d a series executive produced by Clement and Waititi, plays according to a relatively elastic set of rules. (The series is launching this month on the CW, and available to stream the next day on HBO Max, after a run on TV in New Zealand in 2018.) Its central two cops \u2014 played by Karen O\u2019Leary and Mike Minogue, of the \u201cWhat We Do in the Shadows\u201d film \u2014 face down threats in New Zealand\u2019s capital from across the spectrum of the supernatural, from zombies to aliens. Its diffuse sense of infinite possibility, though, exposes a certain simplicity in the show\u2019s writing: \u201cWellington Paranormal\u201d is both a show on which anything could h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>en and one on which too little that\u2019s surprising does.<\/p>\n<p>That goes for the writing as well as the plot. Minogue\u2019s character, for instance (named Minogue, as O\u2019Leary\u2019s character is named O\u2019Leary), has his memory erased by a vampire. Told that that\u2019s the case, he replies, \u201cNo, I think I\u2019d remember something like that.\u201d This is an elegant enough one-liner the first time, but it does not really hold up to repetition. Part of the comic engine of the show is the pair\u2019s inability to see or understand what\u2019s going on right in front of them, including multiple sight gags involving something of real consequence happening just beyond our central cops\u2019 notice. Dealing with a major theft from a blood bank, O\u2019Leary suspects \u201chigh-performing sports people\u201d seeking unfair advantage; her cluelessness here isn\u2019t un-charming, but it also feels a little underwhelming. In a situation when a character is so clearly in denial about what\u2019s going on, the viewer wants that denial to express itself either more credibly or more creatively. Fecklessness alone isn\u2019t enough to hang a character on.<\/p>\n<p>Minogue and O\u2019Leary have an easy chemistry, and Maaka Pohatu, as their supervisor, is an appealing presence.
