Producer Sam Esmail has been dropping intel on the Peacock show these past few months, and fans of the Syfy version of <em>Battlestar Galactica<\/em> will be glad to know he has no intention of ruining the franchise\u2019s legacy. (So say we all.)<\/p>\n<p>Scroll down to discover everything we know about the upcoming sci-fi series.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Sam_Esmail_is_onboard_as_executive_producer\"><\/span>Sam Esmail is onboard as executive producer<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The <em>Mr. Robot<\/em> creator, who\u2019s also an executive producer on <em>Homecoming<\/em> and <em>Briarpatch<\/em>, is developing the series as part of his overall deal with Universal Content Productions. According to <em>Deadline<\/em>, Esmail told NBCUniversal execs that <em>BSG<\/em> was one of the properties he was most interested in\u2014and he\u2019s a big fan of Ronald D. Moore\u2019s 2004 <em>BSG <\/em>remake, which aired for four critically-acclaimed seasons on Syfy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was this sci-fi show that didn\u2019t feel incredibly sci-fi-y,\u201d Esmail said of the predecessor series in a <em>Hollywood Reporter<\/em> interview this past October. \u201cIt was grounded. I felt like I was watching a war film\u2014so allegorical because it really was talking about 9\/11 and the post-terrorist attack environment in a really human way. It was groundbreaking television in how serialized it was before that became popular among the other dramatic shows.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Its_inspired_by_the_2004_series_but_is_not_a_remake\"><\/span>It\u2019s inspired by the 2004 series but is not a remake<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>\u201c<em>BSG<\/em> fans, this will NOT be a remake of the amazing series @RonDMoore launched because&#8230; why mess with perfection?\u201d Esmail tweeted the day the project was announced. \u201cInstead, we\u2019ll explore a new story within the mythology while staying true to the spirit of <em>Battlestar<\/em>. Ronald Moore, he just hit it out of the park with his series, so why would I even want to touch that? I talked to him and said, \u2018A, are you OK with this? And B, if you are, how do we proceed?\u2019 He said he was OK with it as long as it wasn\u2019t a reboot\u2014which was in line with what I was thinking. But the world of <em>Battlestar Galactica<\/em> is so rich, the mythology is so interesting, that I think there is a lot to pick from and explore.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Michael_Lesslie_will_write_and_produce\"><\/span>Michael Lesslie will write and produce<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The creator and showrunner of the AMC spy drama <em>The Little Drummer Girl<\/em> is tackling the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">script<\/a>s for the new <em>BSG<\/em>. \u201cI am beyond excited to be taking on this iconic and inspirational show,\u201d he said when the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> was announced earlier this month, per <em>Deadline<\/em>. \u201cAs a lifelong devotee, I know that the possibilities of <em>Battlestar Galactica<\/em>\u2019s world are infinite and that each iteration has raised the bar for epic and intelligent sci-fi storytelling. The teams at Esmail Corp, UCP, and Peacock are second to none, and I already know that we are going to honor Glen A. Larson [creator of the 1978 <em>Battlestar Galactica<\/em> series] and Ronald D. Moore\u2019s landmark series and break new boundaries with our own vision. It\u2019s a dream come true\u2014one I just can\u2019t wait to share with fans, new and old alike. So say we all.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"It_wont_be_a_limited_series\"><\/span>It won\u2019t be a limited series<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Esmail confirmed this month on <em>THR<\/em>\u2019s <em>TV\u2019s Top 5<\/em> podcast that the new <em>Battlestar<\/em> is being developed as a long-running series. And after shirking television convention by making <em>Homecoming<\/em> a half-hour drama, Esmail said that the form of the new <em>BSG<\/em> will follow its function: \u201cThere might be episodes that are longer than others. There might be a three-arc episode that could stretch along three episodes. There might be a standalone episode that\u2019s a half-hour long. We want to play around with all forms. We don\u2019t want to put any guardrails at all. We want to just tell the best story possible for each episode. \u2026 What we\u2019re doing here is, every episode, you have the opportunity to change up the tone, to change up the point of view, to tell a different story, to dissect one thing or to go massively wide on another thing, so we are going to lean into that, not shy away from it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/pMT7CaOniug\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"550\" width=\"100%\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"It_will_be_a_political_allegory_like_its_predecessor\"><\/span>It will be a political allegory, like its predecessor<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Just as the 2004 <em>BSG<\/em> mirrored the post-9\/11 world, the new version will have something to say about the political climate here on Planet Earth. \u201cMike just had this great take, and I\u2019m not going to go into it because obviously I don\u2019t want to spoil it for fans, but you kind of see it in <em>The Little Drummer Girl<\/em>, where politics plays a big part in it but without comprising the entertainment value,\u201d Esmail said on the podcast. \u201cBecause in my opinion, you gotta have that. That\u2019s [the] number one priority. I want people to be excited and emotionally invested and on a thrill ride, but at the same time, I think Mike is going to bring a lot of depth and parallel or mirror what\u2019s going on in the world right now.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"No_casting_has_been_announced\"><\/span>No casting has been announced<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The new <em>BSG<\/em> might be a long ways away. In the May podcast interview, Esmail said the team was \u201cjust focused on writing\u201d and had \u201cno casting updates\u201d to share.
