“#Sinkhole nearly swallows two cars on NYC’s Upper West Side<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

A sinkhole opened up on the Upper West Side Sunday \u2014 partially swallowing two cars, officials said.<\/p>\n

Photos show a large chunk of pavement caving on Riverside Drive near West 97th Street, with cars partially pulled in along with some debris.<\/p>\n

Councilman Mark Levine tweeted photos<\/a> showing a crooked white SUV with its backend stuck in the gaping concrete \u2014 with a red car dangling precariously behind it.<\/p>\n

Both vehicles\u2019 tires were off the ground, photos show.<\/p>\n

\u201cEmergency crews are on scene,\u201d Levine said. \u201cNo injuries thankfully. But this is yet another reminder: NYC simply must invest more in upgrading our outdated infrastructure.\u201d<\/p>\n

The vehicles had been removed Sunday afternoon but stops for M5 buses were canceled in both directions between West 72nd and 110th Street.<\/p>\n
