Described as a tale of \u201cdemonic folklore horror,\u201d the story follows a young woman who summons up a vengeful demon to go after her abusive ex. She doesn\u2019t think the summoning will actually work \u2013 but it does. And now the demon is on a killing spree. We\u2019ve all been there, right? It\u2019s a brutal, bloody, upsetting movie, and something about it just clicks with me. Ever since seeing\u00a0<em>Inside<\/em> many years ago, I\u2019ve made sure to pay attention to the work of directors\u00a0Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo. And while I don\u2019t think they\u2019ve been able to match\u00a0<em>Inside<\/em> just yet, I\u2019m always interested in what they\u2019ve cooked up.<\/p>\n<p>Their latest is\u00a0<em>Kandisha<\/em>, a movie inspired by\u00a0the Morrocan folk legend of the vengeful female demon Aicha Kandicha. In the movie, \u201cIt\u2019s summer break and best friends Am\u00e9lie, Bintou and Morjana hang together with other neighborhood teens. Nightly, they have fun sharing scary stories and urban legends. But when Am\u00e9lie is assaulted by her ex, she remembers the story of Kandisha, a powerful and vengeful demon. Afraid and upset, Am\u00e9lie summons her. The next day, her ex is found dead. The legend is true and now Kandisha is on a killing spree\u2014 and it\u2019s up to the three girls to break the curse.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Per the trailer, Kandisha demands the lives of six men when she comes calling, so fellas, watch out.\u00a0<strong>Mathilde Lamusse<\/strong>, <strong>Samarcande Saadi<\/strong>, and <strong>Suzy Bemba<\/strong> star in the movie, which is headed to Shudder on\u00a0<strong>July 22<\/strong> in the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand, as well as via the Shudder offering within the AMC+ bundle where available.<\/p>\n<p>This isn\u2019t the only new film Maury and Bustillo have on the way, either. So I did some deep, intense research \u2013 by which I mean I went to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Aicha_Kandicha\">Wikipedia<\/a>. They claim that the mythological figure is \u201ctypically depicted as a beautiful young woman who has the legs of a hoofed animal such as a goat or camel.\u201d They also add that Aicha Kandicha \u201cis <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a>ly thought to live near water sources, and is said to use her beauty to seduce local men and then madden or kill them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The roots of Aicha Kandicha can be traced back to the\u00a0Phoenician colonies in North Africa. Over time, she was \u201cfolded into Islamic traditions while maintaining her licentious nature and association with aquatic environments.\u201d So guys, if you\u2019re strolling by a body of water and a beautiful hoofed woman shows up, you should probably run. Unless you\u2019re into that sort of thing.
