“#’Major gang war’ in Bronx leaving teens dead in the streets<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

\n

A \u201cmajor gang war\u201d between ruthless Bronx crews that are fearless of cops has left\u00a0a 13-year-old boy\u00a0and two other teens dead in\u00a0just the past five days, law-enforcement sources told The Post on Monday.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe can\u2019t keep them in [jail], and they\u2019re going after each other,\u2019\u2019 a high-ranking police source said, referring to juvenile suspects who end up back on the streets after being sent to family court instead of being prosecuted as adults.<\/p>\n

A city prosecutor added, \u201cThey don\u2019t go to jail, so they do robberies, get in fights and carry guns.<\/p>\n

\u201cLife on the streets in 2021.\u201d<\/p>\n

The first teen to die in the bloody gang-fueled stretch of borough violence was 19-year-old Tyquill Daugherty, who was shot in the head in front of his home in Crotona just before midnight Wednesday, sources and cops said.<\/p>\n

Daugherty\u2019s gang-related death was followed by Sunday\u2019s fatal retaliatory drive-by shooting of Jaryan \u201cJay Ripp\u2019\u2019 Elliot, a 13-year-old suspected member of the Crips, about five blocks away in Belmont, sources said.<\/p>\n

Elliot \u2014 who just graduated from middle school \u00a0\u2014 was at the scene when Daugherty was shot, although he is not believed to have pulled the trigger, sources said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The 13-year-old kid already had eight busts under his belt, including for robbery and assault \u2014 and had been locked up two times this year before being dumped back on the street, the high-ranking cop source said.<\/p>\n

About eight and a half hours after Elliot\u2019s slaying,\u00a0revenge for his murder\u00a0was taken on 16-year-old Ramon Gil-Medrano, who was fatally shot by two males on scooters a little over a mile away in Mount Hope, sources said.<\/p>\n

Gil-Medrano, who was affiliated with the 800 YGz, or \u201cYoung Gunnaz,\u2019\u2019 gang, had been at the scene of the 13-year-old\u2019s slaying, although it is not clear if he is the one who did the killing, sources said.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s no surprise there was retaliation for Elliot\u2019s death because \u201che was crazy and admired by all the gang members, a modern-day Baby Face\u201d a source said, referring to the 13-year-old Bronx boy and the notorious 1930s gangster Lester Gillis Nelson<\/a>, who was nicknamed \u201cBaby Face\u201d because he looked so young.<\/p>\n

\u201cA lot of people on social media<\/a> [were] vowing revenge for his murder,\u201d the source said of Elliot.<\/p>\n

A borough cop said, \u201cThere is a major gang war going on in The Bronx with three teenagers killed in less than a week.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverybody is walking around with a gun because they are more afraid of getting shot than getting arrested.\u201d<\/p>\n

Two more people were then wounded in a double shooting around 4:20 p.m. Monday a little over a mile from where Elliot was killed \u2014 a revenge crime for one of the earlier three incidents of gunplay, sources said.<\/p>\n

Gil-Medrano had previously been wounded in another shooting July 7, 2020 \u2014 a year to the date of Daugherty\u2019s death last week, sources noted.<\/p>\n

The 16-year-old was shot at the time by two guys on a scooter on Prospect Avenue, about two blocks from Daugherty\u2019s murder.<\/p>\n

Gil-Medrano was wanted for an armed car-jacking at the time of his death, sources said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It was one of three open gun cases he had against him in family court when he was killed \u2014 all stemming from incidents in the past seven months, sources said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat a joke,\u2019\u2019 a police source said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAny other time, he\u2019d have been sitting in Rikers Island,\u2019\u2019 the source said, suggesting the justice system\u00a0has gone soft on\u00a0prosecuting criminals. \u201cIt\u2019s just ridiculous. It just shows you how bad it is.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another law-enforcement source added, \u201cThis is another instance of no consequences for repeat gun offenders.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe system that purports to help these kids is actually acting as an incubator for future violence,\u201d the source said.\u00a0\u201cGil-Medrano gets caught with guns, goes to kid-glove Family Court, and he\u2019s out here walking the streets.\u00a0\u201cThe kid gloves ultimately allowed him to get\u00a0murdered.\u201d<\/p>\n

A source said online taunting is only continuing to help to fuel the gang warfare.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese shootings are young kids that are part of localized gangs that are antagonizing each other on social media and then going out and shooting each other,\u201d the source said.<\/p>\n

The slayings come as The Bronx is getting hammered amid the city\u2019s gun epidemic \u2014 with the borough racking up more than twice the number of shooting victims so far this year than for the same period in 2020.<\/p>\n

On Monday, an innocent victim, a 66-year-old woman, was added to the grim tally when she was shot in the leg during a nearby\u00a0dispute between two men in Clason Point. She was expected to survive. It was not clear if the shooting was gang-related.<\/p>\n

There have been at least 318 shooting victims in The Bronx so far this year compared to 193 during that time frame in 2020, or a 64.8 percent hike.<\/p>\n

Two of the recent teen gang slayings occurred in the 48th Precinct, which has seen a jump from 20 to 33 shooting victims.<\/p>\n

Mourners of Elliot on Monday placed dozens of candles in front of a photo of the 13-year-old with angel wings on him outside the apartment building where he lived.<\/p>\n

The candles spelled out \u201cJR,\u2019\u2019 for his Jay Ripp street nickname, a 13-year-old pal said.<\/p>\n

Two young males dressed in nearly all black with some blue \u2014 Crips colors \u2014 nodded at the scene when asked by The Post if they were part of his \u201ccrew.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

They posted a fresh $100 bill on one of the candles, and when asked if they were worried someone might take it, one of them smirked and replied, \u201cNobody.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

Two young females poured wax from some of the candles to spell \u00a0\u201cEOS,\u2019\u2019 which one of them said stood for \u201cExterminate On Sight.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

Several people tied blue bandanas to the wrought-iron fence next to the candles.<\/p>\n

Elliot\u2019s 13-year-old friend said his dead pal was the middle of three brothers.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was going to high school!\u2019\u2019 the friend said. \u201cNo more.<\/p>\n

\u201cHis mom is not doing good right now. It\u2019s sad.\u201d<\/p>\n

A neighbor added of local young toughs, \u201cThey know nothing happ<\/a>en if the cops get \u2019em!<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s catch and release. Why you think they at it so young?\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

A mother of nine children, including seven boys, said she knew Elliot through her kids and urged parents in the area to stand up and take charge.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey need to be more aware of what their children is doing,\u2019\u2019 said the woman. \u201cThese kids is out here 2, 3 o\u2019clock in the morning. No mothers is looking for them. No mothers is coming to check for them.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt the end of the day, we, all the mothers, need to come out here and stand up with each other together, you understand, so our children can stop getting involved in all this negativity.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s why I\u2019m out here,\u201d she said. \u201cI don\u2019t want my children to die.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n
